As one who also rides 25" frames, and who has had the pleasure of trading with BD--the standing offer of an ad-hoc ride on a properly sized spare member of the fleet means the door is always open your logbook permitting!

I've seen one, maybe two, 18 wheelers with road bikes behind the cab. Makes me happy when I see it. Stay safe!

Hey, best of luck! Remember to use your mirrors, remember all dispatchers are bastards, and try hard to get a ride in at least twice a week. If you pass (since I certainly won't be passing you!) A Roehl truck that has a grey Trek with alloy fenders strapped on behind, pray give a wave at me.

I wish there were a way you, me, Bianchigirl and DanB (and whoever else I may have forgot) to synchronize sometime and meet up for a ride.

Remember to stay away from lot lizards and meth. Seriously, trucking is one of the most dangerous occupations. Take your time, stay on route and don't get frustrated.

BTW as you will see most all truck stops have a WiFi these days, so once you get a laptop it is easy to get online.
May your travels be uneventful! I mean that in a good way.

The iPad or new mini iPad WiFi ($329) may be all you need. Built in camera is decent too. Best of all, fast bootup, long, long battery life. Also, with the email client, you don't need to pay $40/month for a digital plan on a smart phone.

Best of luck. I put myself through college driving trucks and buses (local) and look back on it as a great job. No boss over your shoulder. No computer monitor 2 feet from your face all day.

Now that would be cool.
To the OP, hope you are planning to carry a bike with you. Not that you'll get to ride every day. Heck, you won't get the chance most days, but there will be times when you will find yourself in the middle of great riding country with time on your hands, and at those times, a bike on board is mandatory.
I've been trucking for about 38 of the last 41 years, and back at it in semi retirement mode now. (7 days on, 7 days off.)
I've been able to meet up with a couple of members on the 50+ forum for rides, one quite recently in Councill Bluffs Ia.

Story about that ride here. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...-a-fellow-BFer

+1 , especially busses , which have improved greatly since my college days . Commercial Driving License was not around then in Illinois , I think driving is much better now .

Shiny side up, greasy side down. Comb your hair and grin Smokey Bear around the bend!

Then there was: Keep your nose between the ditches and the bears out of your britches.

I drove a 26' local straight truck on the stop and rob run for a local convenience store chain in the late 70's and an oil tanker in the late 80's.

Good Luck BD, let us know where you are rolling. I pass through most states between PA and GA along the eastern seaboard every couple of weeks, but now I am a roller skate driver.

Good luck on your new job Miguel!

When you get back on Bike Forums, I'll show you pictures of the Trek 520 you sold me.

Yea, I've been changing it up a bit!
