Phil Wood made a thin wall, Atom/Maillard compatible tool that will fit over the locknut and cone. Alternately, use an axle vice to grab the exposed end of the axle, so you can hopefully loosen and remove the locknut and pseudo cone.

My last ditch attempt would be to disassemble the freewheel. Remove the cover plate and lift off the outer body. Clamp the inner body in a vice and remove. The freewheel will be destroyed but for $10 you can get a inexpensive Shimano 5 speed with HyperGlide style cogs that will shift much better and uses the modern remover.

No, it's different, and has been out of production since the 1980s so the tool is getting scarce. It's the one on the right, below:

BikeToolsEtc appears to have it, but it ain't cheap.

I MAY go the destructive route as I will NOT put it back on a bike if I do not have the tool to remove it...at least save the hub and wheel, have plenty of "Newer" Shimano freewheels in better shape.

For those of you who have never used one:

1. Insert the tool through the hole in the bearing race so that the flanges hook on the back side of the race.

2. Place the hub, tool facing down, with the hub shell supported by hardwood, PVC pipe, etc.

3. Insert an old axle into the opposite end of the hub shell. It will seat of the end of the tool.

4. Tap the end of the axle with a hammer to drive out the race.

Fantastic, now I can fix those pesky Maillard hubs.

I have a question. This appeared on ebay about two weeks ago. it went for 105 bucks is it really a Campagnolo bearing race puller I can't find anything like it in my searches.

So is this really what it claims to be?

The only thing that pulls is money out of your wallet.

I wouldnt say its not.....Campagnolo marks everything they make so if it is a Campagnolo tool it'll be marked somewhere.

I did a lot of searching myself and couldnt find that tool either but I did find similar looking tools. I'm not saying it is a Campy tool and I'm not saying it isn't. That being said, similar tools sell for similar prices on ebay.

I have tried to remove the cup on a set of hubs using a bearing puller and TMar's instructions and I keep knocking the bearing puller out but the cup does not budge has this happened to anyone else and if so were you able to eventually get the cup out?

Thanks
