Park Crank Pullers with TA threads

I picked up a Park CCP-2 yesterday, the early version which has threads for both TA and English cranks. I happen to already have a CCP-1 so one of them is going to a local C&V friend who was about to borrow mine anyway. But as long as I have them both here I thought I'd put up pics as a reference.

The CCP-1 is a smaller tool with a shorter handle, not ideal for a tight crank.

Here you can see that the CCP-1 has one more thread on the TA side, but the CCP-2 has considerably more on the English side. I don't think any cranks are really that deep though! Also, the threading on the tool's shaft is much coarser on the CCP-1 so the head of the tool is not interchangeable between the two.

Hope this helps someone, sometime.

+1 I always look for the dual heads, and the CCP-2 is a sleeper, as most do not realize the early ones came with the dual heads (most know the CCP-1 has them). Picked up another one yesterday, C/L seller had a pile of tools, no descriptions, but the pic showed the two heads.

The CCP-1 is the only puller I've ever owned, except for a requisite Stronglight. A flawless performer for over 25 years.

You can borrow mine, Vonruden, if shipping isn't prohibitive for you.

Should have held the two right next to each other in the second shot, I think, for an exact size reference. Anyway, it gives the idea. And the CCP-1 is now with another Chicago C&Ver.

You're right, b dub, that's the one you traded to me. And now it's gone as part of another trade. Sure I could have sold it, but then I'd only have the money!

^ It's not that easy, chicken. These are 20+ years old, and the current Park pullers would not have TA threads. And you don't need these specific versions unless you have bikes with cranks made by the French firm Specialites TA, which used a unique 23mm thread. Not to be confused with the French firm Stronglight, which used a 23.35mm thread!

I have several pair of TA cranks to move or install. Luckily, I was the lucky recipient of this fine tool. Thanks Alan!

Well, if you had ordered one last week, you could have it today! And it is an essential tool. There are two Chicago shops that do a lot of mail order, Smart Bike Parts and Lickton (lickbike.com). I recommend both!

OK VR. If you find a source for the CCP-2's, please let us know.

The crank tool made by TA itself is occasionally available on the Bay, in case anyone needs it.

This is helpful for a newcomer like me. I have a Motobecane Grand Record with a TA crank. Alo, good to know about Lickton's being good to work with. I grew up in the town where they are located and remember the boys being tall, skinny and having red hair. I used to go into theur shop when I bought my first ten speed, a Schwinn Super Sport in the late 60's.
