    ALAN frame

    Hello everyone,

Thought I would ask any vintage aficionados out there about an ALAN frame. I have come across a frame in need of restoration work but had a question about what year/model. Most of the ALAN frames have the ALAN head badge but this one has an Olympic head badge. alan.jpg Any advice one what year or type this frame is? Thanks for the help.

My guess re the Olympic decal is that a previous owner liked the decal. I've never seen this decal on an ALAN before. I have a favourite bike I applied a set of Olympic ring to.

The frame may have a model and build date stamped to the top of the RH seat stay (if I remember correctly). I think early frames may not have this identification.

    -look for serial numbers
-make pics of the top tube cable guides (if any), seat stay cluster and rear dropouts
Pass the Dutchie on the non-drive side.
    Rather a 100$ bike with 1000$ wheels than a 1000$ bike with 100$ wheels.

Here is the most helpful thread I have seen on ALAN bikes. Somewhere in the 4 pages of discussion there is a bit about all the identifiers on the frame.

A million years ago (18 or 20) I had an Alan with all clamp-on bits and pieces. When I was going through a parts bin the other week I ran across the Weyless Seat Post it came to me with. I'm tall so has switched it out for a longer one. It was fun seeing this post and bringing back the memories of flying down hills at 40+ and watching the front fork flex back and forth!

Thanks for the help gents, and any ladies? I actually passed on the frame because the anodizing was terrible. There were tons of scuff marks, scratches and places where the anodizing was rubbed off completely. I could have sanded the whole thing and did a polish and cleared it but was not looking for that much work. Thanks again for all the helpful information.
