L'Eroica Registration Just Got More Difficult

Enrollment in L'Eroica just got a lot more difficult for most of us. It's going to be a lottery for men under 60 ....

https://italiancyclingjournal.blogspo...attention.html

Looks like we'll have to work harder to arrange our own?

That is good news for some of us. Now if I could only afford to do it.

Time has always been the bigger problem, I figured if I could nail that, the rest can if need be go in credit.

I had a feeling this was coming. Hopefully the drawing will be early enough to allow reasonable planning.
Conversely, this is better than a field that was too big for the local infrastructure to support.

While the L'Eroica is not in my short term plans it is on my bucket list. Since I've only got 2 years more to go to bypass the lottery entry, I figure in about 5 years I will be in Italy; my wife would like it to be earlier.

Discrimination. Lost interest in future editions, so they accomplished what they were looking for: less interest. From now on it is for people without a well defined concept of ethics.

+1. Interest seems to grow geometrically each year, so they have to do something. By the time I'll be able to go, they'll have a lottery for the 60+ crowd as well.

Looks like it'll be Cino Heroica for me!

Seriously though, don't we have some nice rides here in the US? I'm pretty sure there are routes that could be planned here in the US that would be similar to L'Eroica.

Of course we can come up with special rides/events in the United States.

What we can"t synthesize or replicate are the incredible cultural experiences experiences only available in the Tuscan hills.

The food, history, museums, roads, cities, people are so unique to this region.

After slogging up the hills outside Volterra, I can't imagine the riding being any more difficult for that matter.

Yes, this is why I want to return to Tuscany with a bicycle.

Even to go it independently if need be on some day other than the actual event. In some ways, not having the crowds would be a plus.

I agree, Northbend. Though, having driven those narrow roads last year, one advantage might be safety in numbers. Still, I think it would be OK.

L'Eroica Registration Lottery - Is Cino Heroica an Apt Replacement?

I knew someone would come up with this response. Admittedly, I tend to be more provincial than many here on this forum. I'm not very tempted by travel outside the North American continent, though I have considered travelling to England.

I think the Napa region in northern CA would be a good area for a US based Eroica event. Not exactly like Tuscany, but some areas do feel and look like Tuscany, specially at the foothills.
