uh oh, which bb tool do I need?

I did some searches, but since I don't know what bottom bracket is in here, I can't seem to find out which tool will work. 18 splines/teeth. Had an Athena 8-sp era crankset on it. Please excuse the gross photograph.

Dunno. The Park tool for campy athena, etc. is only 12 spine. Phil Wood uses an 18 spine tool?

Looks like a Phil Wood BB to me. Keep in mind it is recommended (though not always essential) that you use two Phil Wood BB tools to install/adjust it.

The splined ring looks too small in diameter to be a Phil woods; OTOH I don't know another 18T BB lockring. If you have a caliper, the Phil Woods lockring is about 30.2mm when measuring opposing notches.

Just measured from the edge of one notch to the edge of the opposing notch. 30.19.
I'll take it into a shop later this week and hope they have the phil tools; I don't.

I suppose it could also be an old Shimano un72? I guess I'll find out. Thanks for the help, guys!

Yeah I thought it was an Athena bb but I hadn't taken a close look at the splines. If it's a PW i don't think I'll sell it, I now need the same length for my other Italian threaded bike, and this one is getting external bearings.

T'was indeed a phil. Thanks all for the educated guesses. Had the shop remove it for $5, and I think it will go on the Colner next.

In the meantime it will be flynn's dinnertime companion.

Lucky dog. Let me know if you would like to borrow my tools to install it sometime. I'll even send along the socket so you can torque it.
