This wasn't a horrible deal, I'm surprised there were no more bids...

I'm not a Masi expert but was this a bad deal? It was my size, if I had had the money, I would've bid on it. Is there something I'm missing?

OP - I agree...a reasonably decent condition Masi WITH a SR gruppo? Granted the shipping was high, but I would have thought it would have garnered more interest.

Prestige just does not carry the same rep as the GC or 3V. IIRC, it was considered an "entry level" Masi. Still a Masi and still nice. Just not the rep.

incazzare.
It probably would have gone for more if they had started the bidding at a lower price to get people interested. There's a risk involved there, but then not too many people are willing to put $999 down as an opening bid.

The twin plate crown was almost exclusively used in 1973-1974.
One of the repaint identifiers is the numerical stamping on the chain stay socket of the bottom bracket shell.
This does indicate that it was probably dropped off for a respray at the Vigorelli. Should this help the value?
Cable routing and braze ons are all different.
The two tone paint is probably not helping here either, Masi played with this for a while but it is kind of outlier.
The shipping while high is not expensive for a whole bike from Italy, but it does deter folk often.

I don't know if I would call it entry level, but more traditional, at least after the 3V arrived.
Yes, the 3V was more money, so by the 80's I guess one could say it was entry level, but a pretty high entry point.
The subordinate models marketed by the USA branch do kind of confuse things, as they were built in Italy, just elsewhere.

Whoosh....right over head. The twin plate crown did not register. You are correct.

Would have been nice if the seller had understood how to actually clean a bike, obviously they just wiped it down.

Here is a real Prestige, but I am not convinced it is original paint. Masi rarely placed tubing transfers on a frame by this point.
Unusual cutout of the tubing below the seat lug ears, first time I have seen this. Creative save for an issue?

Also its January. Some of us don't have $1000 after christmas, the sales and time of work. Its not the best time of year to list an item, but maybe like me he needed the money.

I watched the first of these listed here with a twitchy finger.
My whole stable is in rearrangement though.
No time to add "that" one on impulse.
As for the second Masi listed here, that's a real looker that I would not have resisted at an impulse purchase price point.

I agree for $1000 I want a much cleaner bike. It is nice looking though.

I believe Repechage is correct that the bike is not a Prestige model. It is likely an updated 1974 Gran Criterium. I find it odd that it has a '78 front derailleur and a 1982 rear derailleur, when was the last time you saw derailleurs wear out? I also am more than a bit worried by the adjustable cup sticking out on the BB. There are definitely compatibility issues with the various BB parts. If there are issues with the BB and the cleaning has been done in a haphazard manner, it is highly likely that there will also be other issues. Given the various issues, combined with the shipment from Italy by an unknown seller and I believe the price was fair. If being sold by a known seller, who correctly listed it as an updated GC and with the original derailleurs, brake levers, BB and pedals... together with a proper clean-up and the price would have doubled

It also has a Triple crank (although being used as a double)
Plus, the added bottom of BB shell guides and the TT guides and the "updated paint".

Heck, SR triple and a 4-hole FD. That's like a third the cost of the bike right there. Had it been my size I would have been sorely tempted.
