Bar Tape

I changed out the black Cinelli Cork for white Bike Ribbon and think it's a big improvement.

Looks totally great - a big visual plus, I think. It is a real beach keeping that white looking so pristine though.

First and foremost, the bike in general makes me drool.

Second, I like the white - nice choice.

Third, I'll commit two sins (crosspost and hijack), if you'll forgive me. The subject of this thread almost requires it though...
From the Winter Project thread, and as regards my own white Colnago, I'm deciding between yellow vs. black bar tape. The only other yellow on the bike is the outline of the Colnago logo, but I reckon it'd lose all its personality with black or white. I did a quickie black overwrap on one side to check....thoughts?

I don't really want to go to yellow brake cable housings. Wish I could Photoshop.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, no matter how much better I think white tape might look on any bike, if it's my bike and it's a rider, bar tape will be black. Life is too short for non-black tape on riders. If it's a wall-hanger meant for gawking and photographing, whatever looks best is fine. Otherwise black is the only acceptable color in my garage. PS, I don't have any wall hangers.

And yes, the white tape does look better! I think a white saddle would pop, too. Lovely machine!

Apologies for thread drift, but who makes the wheel stand, and how do you like it? I just ordered some Willworx stands, haven't used them yet, yours looks like an Ultimate, maybe?

If I can offer a contrarian viewpoint, I like the black. And Vive la blackwall tires.

Being double contrarian, old-school white Benotto tape looks good after years. Wipes clean. No shock or sweat absorption though, but those things are for wusses.

White looks great.

And in my opinion it looks best when its old and dirty and polished from riding. Somewhere on the internet you can find photos of the Bianchi that Fausto Coppi rode, with worn and stained cotton tape that was white once. Best looking bar tape there is!

Please, prove me right by posting some more photos when that tape has earned some road grime. Then it will be perfect!

Count me as a proud wus! I stopped using actual cotton tape and Benotto in the early '80s, when Grab-On Pro ultrathin foam grips debuted. It was that for a while, then cork/padded wrap ever since. Black. Shaken, not stirred.

The white looks better, but the seat is out of balance now.

I'm partial to yellow on my Super -

And Kactus, I really like the white tape, but now you need a white saddle and cable housings! Yeah, one change snowballs! And I also see tan walls on your bike to...

It's just a cheap Chinese made stand I picked up. It's not great but it does serve its purpose.

Thanks!

I'll go with a white saddle if you go with a yellow one.

Very quick and VERY dirty. (I picked up the color from a highlight on the left side of the bars.)

I'm embarrassed to even post this, but the damage is done:

Awesome! Now I also get to consider black tape and yellow cable, which I hadn't before.

Thanks Dan!

Ha! When I saw the pic (and hadn't read your post, of course) I thought, yeah, that is the thing to do, different color bar tape on different sides! I like! My newest bike has a purple and green frame... How about wrapping one side of the bar in purple, the other green? I would say I wish I was crazy enough to try it, but you know what they say about getting what you wish for.
