Modern Cycling Shoes Made For Use With Toe Clips

Does anyone know of any brands of cycling shoes made for use with toe clips currently being produced other than the ones shown below?

Dromarti Storica "Classic"

(This shoe also comes in black with red stitching. I have a pair of these shoes, and they work great.)

Quoc Pham Fixed

you found two of the nicest ones already. Vittoria also makes a similar leather shoe, as well as a Portland company called Exit: https://www.exitshoes.com/exit/exit-cycle/ .

and Reynolds in the UK. https://reynoldsshoes.co.uk/

and the Exustar Stelvio:

On the sneaker side, Chrome makes several that look similar to Converse chucks.

The Vittoria 1976 is alot more like the racing shoes than an office shoe. I think there's a pair in my future...

I may get a second pair of shoes to alternate days with the Dromartis to give the Dromartis a chance to dry out between rides. And, I was trying to find out what else was available.

i have a pair of these. they look great but can only be worn in the summer due to the holes in the sides, and the sole is not stiff enough for long rides. YMMV, of course.

Ah, I see. Thanks. Those Dromartis look very nice indeed and I couldn't imagine how you could improve on those.
Those Exit shoes look amazing but ....

You know, I realize it doesn't meet with the criteria of your original question but, I just picked up, another, set of old Dettos. Sixty bucks.
But, no good for walking in.

Ah, that's a bummer. I've been wanting to upgrade from sneakers because of the ache I get on long rides.

The problem with the holes in cold weather with any of these shoes could possibly be solved with winter booties for cycling shoes.

I'm using the Vittorias with Time ATAC cleats. If you're wearing sneakers and planning on using the Vittorias with platform pedals, you will definitely like them better than the sneakers. That said, you'll get equal performance and lot better value out of Chrome's fixed gear sneaker line.

My comparison above is the Vittorias versus SIDI Dragon shoes with ATAC cleats. Ultimately no "casual" SPD shoe will be as good for long rides as a high-end cycling shoe such as a SIDI, because they wouldn't be comfortable to wear off the bike otherwise.

It seems to me that the aggressive tread on those Exit shoes would be poor for sliding in and out of toe clips with platform pedals. .. although the Cycling Oxford model has a smooth sole.

Ah, okay. If it helps, I've been using Shimano's triangular-type pedals, which probably makes the problem worse by giving less of a platform to distribute the weight:

So I think I'd be really happy if I could find some heavily-vented shoes like the 1976's with a little more support underneath. If cleats were a necessity, I'd probably go back to SPDs.

I used Nike "running" shoes for years (college days and after) with toe clips and discovered that they were fine for short trips but anything longer than say 20 miles, the strap had to be way loose so I wouldn't put my right foot to sleep (never had a problem with the left). I later I tried a true court shore (I.e basketball, tennis) and their stronger sidewall and tougher uppers were an improvement (also inexpensive at outlet malls). Frankly. I'm disinclined to own specialist shoes for each bike but...foot comfot and health is every thing. Never understood why the clip straps are so narrow. Now that I think about it...Converse low top court shoes in 60's-70's style would be old school! for us baby boomers to cheap to buy real cycling shoes (but by god I owned real leather Adidas soccer shoes!).

The custom Exit shoes looked pretty nice until I saw the $1200 price tag. If I'm spending that kind of money, I'd buy 2-3 good bikes instead.

I have a pair of these Addidas Super Pro Classic. Unfortunately I believe they were only made in 2008, but there is so much to like with these shoes. They are leather on top and carbon fiber in the bottom; they also have a carbon fiber heal support on the back.I first used them with toe clips (using toe clip cleats) and they worked flawlessly. I've since put some Look cleats on (for the look pedals on another bike) and they work just as well; they are the best fitting, stiffest and comfortable bike shoes I own. Too bad you can't get them anymore.

i think you'll find you'll have happier feet if you switch to a platform pedal with a larger platform area, such as the MKS GR9, Velo Orange Sabot, or the new Paul Components copy of the Lyotard Berthet.

i personally found the GR9's to be the most comfortable platform pedal I ever used, and they are about $30 a pair.

I have a pair of these Campy Triomphe pedals. Because of the wide design, they work well with street shoes, but also had a cleat lip for toe clips. They are starting to get a little pricey, but there are a beautiful pedal and very comfortable no wonder what shoe you use.

Some years back I ordered a pair of these:

https://www.williamlennon.co.uk/categ...cle-shoes.html

Very reasonably priced, but it took quite a long time to receive them. I think they're individually made to order.

They make the Dromarti seem down right affordable.

I like running shoes best with those pedals, personally. Not barefoot runners, of course. Actually 90s style thick soled shoes are best as they kinda compress a little and help keep my foot locked in. I typically go for some of the smoother-soled trail runners. Some trail runners get really lugged which are tough to get in with and can keep you locked in more than you'd like at times.

I liked Adidas indoor soccer shoes, and Asic track spikes before they ended the smooth outsoles.
However, a friend of mine still buys track spikes, grinds a slot across the bottom for the lip on the back of the pedal,
and tours all the time with them. It probably helps that they're blue suede.

I'm still running a very nice set of those 600 pedals, and have a spare set of Exage.
I may experiment with removing the lip instead, and go back to Adidas indoor soccer shoes.
Once the platform is has no ridges, I'm fine with the "footprint," one reason I liked the Ofmega Sintesi.
