To Drew or not to Drew: Path bike

I've been wanting to take an old frame, have the rear dropouts replaced with track style and build a Path style bike with a flip flop hub and brakes. Of course, not anything holy grail, but I have a number of possible candidates here, Motobecane Grand Record for one...

Grand Record!? Oh no. Well, at least if it's an early 70's one in fine shape.

Don't Drew it Dbakl, please!

Ok, I'll use the old 50s Pogliaghi. No, the Grand Record frame is a little beat, silver and black, sticker on headtube, I was starting to restore it back to original but I'm more inspired by an earlier, nicer Gran Jubilee I've already powdercoated.

Drew. If you're going to paint it anyway it doesn't really matter on a middle of the road, high production model. But I'm not sure if the 74/74 angled Grand Rec would be that good of a choice for a path racer.

Yeah, N+1 is always the answer! Plus, I don't know how you'd like to be confronted with a Swiss BB by the time you start picking BB and crank for this ride, not to mention the french headset.

I did this with an old Bianchi I bought that already had a broken drop-out. The track ends are "cool" but are not a great idea with fenders. I did mount the rear fender with a slotted tab at the chainstay so it easily slides off if you do have a puncture on the road. But still not ideal considering this is my winter/rain bike. But I'm a slave to style...

Why not get a beaten up DL-1 that has been mostly parted out, enough to keep the cranks and the headset. DL-1 have been rocking track ends since 1913. Lace up 700c rims on track hubs and put on Fat Franks, they'll fit a DL-1 without fenders. Slap on some drop bars, and a BMX caliper brake in the front, or use a front drum brake for effect.

These are 44-635 tires, the diameter is equivalent to 50-622 tires.

My Roadster is almost there, I have to get another Sturmey Archer drum brake cable in order to fit the drop bars.

dbakl, If your going for the GuvNor thing hackaway. But a Road/path frame is a different beast. Since I'm assuming you want this C&V in nature, you'll be needing round bladed forks too, more $$"s. Drewing up a Roadbike is going to result in just a fixie conversion! Hack up a DL-1 and you'll get a Lead-Sled in Gov Nor's clothing. I could really care less what you Drew, a De Rosa just for the effect would be my choice . But for the ride, ya need to find yourself a actual Road/path frame. IMHO

I agree with the N+1 crowd just buy something that already has the track ends. But remember it is hard to put everything on them, I had to use P clips for the fenders on my Phantom Uno if I wanted to use tensioners too.

Otis nice looking Bianchi. If you don't tell anyone you would never know it isn'e a Pista sporting a brake.

Busted! Says it's an "acetylene welded frame", you know it can't be C&V if it's welded...plus it's got a brake, what authentic fixie dude uses brakes?....obviously a toy for for the post victorian Fred.

Looks like jrecio's DL-1 conversion idea. Kinda cool but I bet it's as agile as a turtle .
