Another mystery frame
Please help me identify this frame.
I'm told it's a Koga Miyata Pro, though I have my doubts, because I've never seen a KM with a semi-fastback seat stay cluster. It appears to be Tange racing bike tubing. It has forged Shimano dropouts, a British bottom bracket shell, and it fits a 27.2 mm seatpost. I bought it raw and cheap and thought I'd take a chance. It came with a Shimano 600 headset attached to a Tange unicrown fork model 188, I think, with a date code of 8L which stands of December 1988. The serial number on the bottom bracket shell is 89B2273.
I haven't found any brand with that configuration. It seems straight and solid. Rear spacing 126mm. That's all I know.
Thanks.

Hi Mcoovelis. Other than a chromed frame you can't see any detail about this frame. Can you post some better and bigger pics? maybe a close of the seat stay caps, the headluggs, dropouts. What brand are the dropouts? What threading is the BB shell? Seatpost size?

Looks sweet and serial number format almost certainly indicates Feb. 1989 manufacture, which is consistent with the fork being original. Send a personal message to forum member "T-mar" as he knows serial number formats better than anyone. He'll want better pictures too so that should be your first priority.

Sorry about the worthless photo. I don't have the frame in hand. It's with the painter. I wanted to resolve my doubts about the frame before i went with the Koga Miyata ID. But I think I solved the mystery on another thread which identified a frame with an identical serial number pattern (89B2273) and frame characteristics (Shimano EF dropouts, 600 components, Tange tubing and Tange unicrown fork) as a Centurion Prestige. The photos on the other thread confirm it, I think. As you can see from the Flickr photos, I discovered this about a day too late. It probably matters to purists, but I got the frame for 70 bucks and I'm just pleased to discover that it's a high quality steel frame. I'm putting Dura Ace and 600 components on it and riding it into my retirement...after I take off the KM decals, lest I offend Koga aficionados.

+1, it's a perfect match for a 1989 Centurion Prestige. Too bad it lost the original marble paint, which was gorgeous.

Thanks, T-Mar. Your confirmation seals the deal. It's actually a better frame than I thought it was when I bought it and decided to build it up. I think I'll be riding it by the weekend.
