For the Ironman crowd

Just saw this Miami Vice Ironman on the St. Louis CL. Just trying to turn my personal pain into a little joy for someone looking for one of these beauties.

Miami Vice was a trend-expander, in that the colors, styles and schemes featured on the show benefitted from the exposure and ended up becoming a larger trend in many areas. Several bike models came out in those years that featured those vivid colors.
The "Miami Vice" Ironman seemed to have a foot in South Beach and another on the big island, as the ad campaign featured the bike and Dave Scott in a colorful lei with a Hawaiian theme. The "Miami Vice" link was definitely established when the late Sheldon Brown made the connection in a comment on his web site to Ashley Wright's excellent history/outline of Centurion bikes. The idea has stuck, obviously.
Back in those days, yes, the theme was around. The Ironman was neither the most colorful, nor the most garish, of the bunch, but the bike was well on its way to iconic status and the MV Ironman because an icon of the icon.
