This is really cool. I have one and think it is the neatest thing. Really cool they found some and decided to sell, and at a great price too!

Ride a bike and smoke, how French can one be? Actually, a bike would be a better tie in with Camel!

When I was in high school a Gentleman in the local cycling club had a cigarette lighter, like from an old 6v car, on his bike. When we stopped he would push it in, flip the dyno and give the rear wheel a good spin then fire up a smoke.

Yet all of it was very high quality. I'm writing this still wearing the last of the Marlboro denim shirts that came from the same campaign as the Fuji folder. It's the best denim shirt I've ever had, and will be worn until it falls apart into a pile of threads. I think I've still got a branded piece or two of camping gear, all of which served me very well over the years.

The best part was, I'm not a cigarette smoker. Back during the promotion, my live-in girlfriend worked for the Sheetz convenience store chain, and one of her daily duties was filling the smoking racks. She kept all the extra miles you got in a carton, and we bought lots of stuff.

Back in 2000 I won a trip to the Marlboro ranch in Montana as well as a ton of gear. The gear was all top end brands. Really nice luggage, a Barbour jacket and camping gear. The Marlboro ranch was an incredible experience. Really nice accommodations, entertainment and incredible food. All kinds of awesome ranch related activities to do each day.

I have seen a lot of them used, as complete bikes, for $100 or less. It was a very basic bike.

There was one up on CL here last week for a bill. If it wasn't sized for an elf (17"), I probably would have picked it up just cuz.

The Marlboro miles campaign was great in some light.
I would pick up discarded (litter) packs, pull the miles off, and throw the rest in the trash.
This got me a raft, poker/chess set, zippo, sleeping bag, and over things. Most of which I still have today, and gets regular use.

Aside from the irony of being a tobacco company promotion, I agree, it's a great product. The original components are pitiful, but with proper upgrades, the Fuji folder is a very capable 4130 cromoly framed bike that can hold its own as a commuter or on the road. That it happens to fold is a bonus. I have used mine to commute by train, when full sized bikes were not allowed. And for interstate travel by car, what can be better (other than perhaps an $and$ coupled bike) than a full sized folding bike in the trunk that can be pulled out, unfolded, and rolling down the road in seconds.

I have one waiting for the same reason you have listed. I used to trip over these bikes and pass on them, then they stopped showing up for sale. So I grabbed the first and last one I have seen for sale, at a decent price.

The Altria Group (made up innocuous name) used to be Philip Morris, the owner of the Marlboro (and many other) brands. At the time of the folding bike and other 'gear' promotion, PM also owned Kraft Food and you wouldn't believe how many food brands they controlled. So if you're going to avoid a Fuji bike with a cigarette label, maybe you should pay attention to what multi-national conglomerate controls the food on your dinner table as well. Talk about poisons... OK, enough Military-Industrial-Congressional complex ranting for today. Cool folder, I love the touring version in this thread.

I saw that on Nashbar's Facebook feed yesterday. Wasn't sure what to make of it. Thanks for all the info. Would make a unique bike. 17" might or might not fit me. I think my Trek 900 is 18" and I ride a 20 or 21" road frame.

Nashbar might be a little off on their specs for this bike. I measured my seat tube at 18" from BB to the top of the stationary part, just above the seat clamp. Pretty sure these frames all came in one size only, at least all that I've seen have been the same. Also their spec sheet says 25.4 for the seatpost, when 26.4 is correct. I can confirm rear spacing is 135, mine has a 9-speed wheel set in place. Otherwise the build specs are all standard, which makes for an easy build.

I typically ride a 55-56 cm. road frame and would say the Fuji is a good fit all around.

Sometimes Marlboro is a cig, sometimes it's a place.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlborough,_Wiltshire

Sometimes cheddar is a cheese, sometimes it's a village.

Sometimes a bike just has a name.
