Please school me on this wheelset I won last night!

I have been looking for a Campy 8 speed wheelset which I found last night.

The hubs are Chorus and the rims are Mavic Open Pro. Any idea what year these hubs and rims are?

Where did these rims fall in the Mavic hierarchy at the time?

Now I have to find some skewers (100/130mm) to make the set complete.

I'm excited about this find!

I had a '94 Chorus hub and it had a raised center section. I think they went away from that later, so that would put your set at '95 until 9s was introduced ('97?). Check the locknuts - I'm pretty sure they were dated.

This is a '94 - I had bought it BNIB

Chorus skewer from '94

b dub, I guess somewhere between '94ish and '98ish because of the rim's decals.

Open Pros have been around for decades and are still in production today. They are reasonably light, but not as strong as modern rims (Velocity Aero). Based on the posted picture, you have an early model Open Pro rim. Open Pro became the successor to the Open 4CD in the 80s.

Am I seeing this correct? Are the clips to cover up the oil port holes missing?

Do you even really need them? And are they generic enough to get them easily?

Great wheels early 90's by decals. If it helps I sold a set of these rims bare and used $100 recently.

No, there are no oil ports on those hubs, they are just styled after the earlier ones. I agree that they are late 1990s 8/9 speed.

If not Campy, any suggestions on decent not too pricey skewers?

Get aftermarket skewers, or some from a donor bike.
I like the ones that use an allen wrench. I just do.

Very nice. I always appreciate high-quality wheels with enough spokes to make them strong and reliable.

I wouldn't mind putting a set like that on my Bianchi.

Looks like the hubs may be Athena...circa '94-95 or so...I can have a closer look at a wheelset I have, when I get home.

I use those on two bicycles. They work just fine.

Don't look so bad either.

You might be correct. Looks like Athena upon closer look. Still ok, especially with free shipping
