1985 Bridgestone 700 restoration

I'm not sure that "restoration" is the correct word for it, because honestly the bike was in AMAZING condition underneath a layer of sticky gooey gunk. Other than the wheels, tires, and brake levers, cables, and bar tape, it's all original. (The rims had irreperable flat spots, so I built up a set of wheels with NOS Shimano 600 freehub, Sun CR-18 rims, and black DT Swiss Competition spokes.)

Some Before and after shots:

Very nice! I love those cream colored bikes, so classy. The blackwall tires and bartape complement each other along with the new brakelevers. Nicely done!

Nicely Done! What is that hole in the left side of the DT, just above the shifters?

Hot dang that's sexy, although I can't approve of the brake lever swap. Love those drilled levers (what did you do with them anyways??)

It actually has internal wiring for a Cateye computer. Somewhere along the line a prior owner cut the wiring at the down tube. The wires exit the left rear chainstay, and there are 2 tabs for mounting the sensors. Since no modern computers have that kind of sensor mount, I'm going to splice a new head unit to the old sensors.

Thanks! I had a set of NOS aero levers, but no non-aero hoods. Sooooo... I made the swap and sold the old ones.

Makes sense, they do look really good. Did suntour or shimano ever make a drilled, aero brake lever?

Slotted brake levers are the coolest.

I can't think of seeing any slotted aero levers.

Well that's a bummer, would have been the best of both worlds

edit: Apparently these are even though they are ugly: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-Dia-Com...item5ae8666fce

Yeah, they sure are.

I think the dual slotted Superbe levers are the coolest looking. I've got a set of the Shimano Z series slotted levers and love the look, and I'll probably be using a set of the slotted 600 levers on my upcoming Voyageur project.
