Photobucket problems-Recommend alternative to Photobucket.

I've been using Photobucket since 2008 and never had any issues. Now with their "BETA" webpage, lots and lots of problems. No stats, can't organize, cant's use an URL link to a particular Photobucket page. Their support is no help, just apologies about their known issues and ask to be patient. I have the Pro version, so I'm paying to be a "Beta Tester?".

In my profession the IT industry we say "if it works, don't fix it" or any profession.

Actually, I sort of like where they are headed with the new UI. Granted, it has some kinks (absence of stats duly noted) and I'd like to be able to page forward in an album rather than scroll and keep waiting for all the images to load.

BTW - You can link to any album if you right-mouse and copy link location. The images themselves have the same array of links/html as they always did.

they have to re-instate the quick copy function when you get the quick shortcut to all the links (the direct, html, img links). It does highlight them when you click it but it doesn't automatically copy, that was a huge function.

I frequently have problems with Photobucket's GUI/advertizing either taking forever or locking up my computer entirely. I amk not much a of a fan of their new GUI either, but I can make it work. I have a fluckr account as a back up.

rootboy 03-09-13 10:14 AM

I don't know a UI from my hole in the ground. I kept ignoring their prompts to switch to their new look. It required 2-3 steps to copy an image rather than just one. For now, I'm still using their old layout. Don't like the new one. If it aint broke ...etc.

That's weird. It works on my PC.

^ I know you have heard that a million times from your IT help desk but really, it works on my PC!

I've been using Flickr for years. Whenever I am sent to a photo link on Photobucket I cringe. My recommended alternative is Flickr.

Me too. I've always found Photobucket a bit peculiar to work with, while Flickr never seemed to present any difficulties for me. I know it's probably just what I'm most familiar and comfortable with.

Grand Bois 03-09-13 11:11 AM

I used Webshots for years. It worked great for me and it was easy to post pictures in forums. The best part was that it was free. It's gone now and replaced with something called Smile! that is worthless. I'm still looking for a replacement.

miamijim 03-09-13 11:34 AM

The new photobucket is slick for eBay ads, you can copy all of the codes with 1 click.

I've used Photobucket for quite awhile, but did get annoyed with their "upgrade". I signed up for a free flickr account, but find it to be rather foreign as far as UI. I liked keeping things in albums in Photobucket, and seemed to have a hard time on flickr seeing if something similar was supported.

Oh, the auto copy links thing still works for me as well.

I use smugmug, easy to use IMHO. Free trial period too.

^^ This.

They totally screwed it up.

I'm not thrilled about the slowness, taking two extra steps to do anything, and no, I don't want to organize everything into "stories." But I guess since I've figured it out, I'll muddle through for now...

RobbieTunes 03-09-13 04:11 PM

I'm closing my PB account, if I can figure out how.
I've simply had enough of arbitrarily less and less usefulness.

Italuminium 03-09-13 04:17 PM

I put flickr and photobucket side by side for a comparison last year. That is, I wanted to do that but the UI looked cramped and ugly compared to flickr, and from the horror stories above got even worse.

JohnDThompson 03-09-13 04:19 PM

I usually host my own pictures, but I've also used Picasa.

wahoonc 03-09-13 04:41 PM

I used Webshots for years until they went around the bend with the new system. Currently hosting on Flickr and Picassa. Flickr does groups rather than albums which in some way is nice. Picassa you can still put them in albums if you want.

Aaron :)

I use flickr and really like it. They get complaints regarding their lack of "improvements" but I really like that what changes they make are so subtle. There is also a large flickr bike culture with zillions of nice photos and good global reach. I think it's a superior product and pay for two accounts.

I recently started using dropbox. It's cool because you can upload any file format. I don't like that it tries to upload all my images.

rootboy 03-09-13 05:33 PM

Sounds like I should switch my pickrs to flickr.

smoothness 03-09-13 06:20 PM

imgur. used by redditors. dead simple.

RobbieTunes 03-09-13 06:39 PM

I switched to flickr for 2 images, couldn't get either one to load into the PM's here.
Everything linked to Flicr. I just want the image to show on here.

Currently trying imgur. Really slow uploading.

Deleted Photobucket.

Worst case scenario, I simply load what I want from my computer.

EDIT: imgur seems to be what I'm looking for. Simple. No gimmicks.

So one thing I noticed now lately with Photobucket, is that you can no longer download your own pictures back to your computer, unless you go pro, or whatever it is. I have 700+ pictures on there, and lost all of my originals when my old laptop died unexpectedly. So, now I am SOL I guess? I have to pay them for my own pictures back, pretty much....

Am I mistaken, or is that truly the case?,,,,BD

That is truly the case. Selecting an album, then "Download Album" doesn't work. They own the image now, unless you delete them one by one. I just finished deleting everything from there. Flickr had no way to select a photo into the BF uploader, so I ended that, too.

I just put a few up on imgur, and like it so far.

A lot of the stuff that people have missed with Photobucket's new Beta - including download-album, are listed under "Missing Features". You can expect their return, sooner or later.

Check out this listing.
