Tell me about the 3ttt stem.
A couple of weeks ago I got a deal off of CL for a couple of bikes and misc. parts and equipment. What initially caught my attention was an '88 Trek 2000 with Campi components. When I was checking the bike out I thought I saw that it also had a Cenelli stem. When I got home with my haul and looked the bike over more carefully I discovered that what I thought was the Cenelli logo on the stem, was actually 3TTT. During the purchase of the bike I learned that it originally belonged to a local racer. I don't know anything about 3TTT, but would guess that it must represent quality or he wouldn't have paired it with the campi package. Help me out here. What do you know about 3TTT?

An alternative to Cinelli. Lighter. Racers considered they flexed a bit more. Equal basically in quality and finish for most models. In the C&V era were designed for 26.0 mm bars.

Good stuff. I have an old original 3 ttt Record quill stem, not exactly in "mint" condition, but still pretty decent-looking. It's a little heavy by today's standards, but it makes up for that in the "cool" category.

It's good stuff but does not carry the "cachet" that Cinelli stems do, mostly because of brand recogniion that almost always puts Cinelli at the top of the heap for stems for most cyclist, even though 3TTTs and ITMs work and finished just as well at the top of the line models as Cinelli stem would.
Actually, I think that Cinelli stems are mostly overrated, especially the much vaunted 1R model that actaully have problems with it's clamping system that jams slips and sometimes break for some people, so Cinelli stems aren't anywhere near perfect. If anything, their best stem is actually their most basic one, the 1A which is stiff and with a basic bar clamping system that hardly ever fails and is very well finished.
So don't fret about your stem not being a Cinelli. Your 3TTT should work just as well and be just as home on a fine bike like yous as a Cinelli stem would be.

I've got a 3ttt ProChrome quill stem on my Waterford. It's made from TIG welded Columbus Thron chromoly, and although not as classic looking as the 1A, does have a certain late nineties aesthetic appeal.

Didn't Cinelli take over ownership of 3TTT at some stage?

I have a couple Podiums in polished silver.
Run one of them on my Gilmour, along with 3TTT Competizione bars.
As mentioned, kinda flexy...but...lighter than the equivalent Cinelli, FWIW.

Basically the 3TTT stem is every bit as good if not better than the comperable Cinelli it is just they are not as well recogonized to
a knowledgeble rider or potential buyer on bike it won't make much difference. Yet as said if your selling the parts the 3ttt will get a much lower price than a simislar Cinelli.

Not to argue...but...the Cinelli XA is a stiffer/more stable stem, than the 3TTT Podium (at least), for this 180+# rider.
I agree on price...normally pay $10-20 for a decent 3TTT and $35-45 for a nice XA.

Oh, alright, but my thread just got ignored before. BTW, my decals are o-riginal, and I guess that's pretty uncommon. The stem polished up pretty decently, with Simichrome. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ighlight=3+ttt

Hey, I picked up a Belleri stem the same day I got the 3 ttt. I had never even heard of them, but it looks a HECK of a lot like the 3 ttt, so I figured it was worth grabbing. It has the French colored stripes, though, obviously, and has a small Belleri decal on the face, and it's in better condition too.

Here is a picture of the stem that prompted the post. Unfortunately the stem is better quality than my camera.

I had a similar bar/stem combo, in polished 3TTT, on a bike I once owned. It was the equal of any I've used, for looks and use.
I use Cinelli because the bars fit my hands, and I can get the stems, generally, short enough for my fit. I'm using a very nice 3TTT stem right now on a bike, and for a 25.4 stem, it's as nice as can be.
