My new Fondriest - beautiful bike
Earlier today i got the chain to finish my new build, I believe it's an early 2000's Fondriest w/ Deda steel tubing.
I went with a custom group: Dura ace 7700, Sora, Tiagra, and 105, basically went the cheapest possible route for this bike.
This is my first bike with brifters and it rides like a dream. A really nice looking bike as well.
Please give me crap for my blue tires and how it's not vintage. It is a classic bike and it is made with steel tubing and the frame does look vintage. I will upgrade to gatorskins in a month or so when these zaffiros die.

I think you treat yourself a little too good. People are likely to talk.
I would add more white bits but everyone knows all my taste is in my mouth. 'looking forward to new pics.

Wow Ftwelder i see your vision. Imagine a white saddle, white bar tape, white hoods, white housing, and maybe even white tires. It would give it a nice 90's look.

Colored sidewalls were quite common in the 90's --- the only issues i have with your bike are the ugly seatpost, seat and , crank and pedals ------- the era of clip/strap pedals was long gone in 1995 , and the seat and post combo looks like it is off an early 80's machine
------ heck, Maurizio Fondriest was still racing the big UCI stuff through the mid 90's -- no reason to deck it out with old ****. This one needs circa '94 or 95 Campy components or Dura Ace and the rest of the commuter bike stuff sent to Davy Jones locker -----
-----but , its your bike, not mine. It would look very nice with an Athena or Chorus groupset and a 90's vintage set of Shamals though

Nice bike however! I'd probably agree with Mr. Welder on the white bits.

Yes - very easy to spend other peoples money
My response was not very well thought out and I didn't mean to come off like a jerk. I believe it's far better for a bike to be ridden and enjoyed with Sora/105 bits n pieces, than to sit over a fireplace wearing full campy, And judging by the compact crankset, it looks like it was built up to be ridden

I only know about Fondriest the racer, but little about his bikes, although I believe some of the pro teams use them. This might be the only one I've ever seen on this forum.
So how long have they been around? Are, or were they, built in Italy? And are they well thought of in the cycling world
Good looking bike, although I agree with the others, white bits would look killer!

Nice bike, I bet it rides great! Hey, if you're looking for some good tires, the Colonel just turned me on to these. I am putting them on my Colian, which is a similar vintage.

Ok here's the pics i promised you guys. I'm a poor fellow and all my components are vintage so i put the bike together with what i had, i will eventually get a period correct group. As of right now it rides great but i still need to fix the FD.
Nice internal routing
Uncommon seat cluster (btw how was this frame welded?)
No bridge in the chainstays
Nice Italian style brake bridge
Dura-ace 7700 Hubs, brifters, and cassette

Possibly only Maurizio himself knows! LOL
here's a paragraph i found -- if he started marketing bikes in '93 , i believe yours would have to be a relatively early example --- by '98 headtubes were predominately threadless and many were going oversize
-- those close up pics really crank up the drool factor too! -- Say what you will about the crank, but hide the Sora logo and it closely resembles the early 10 speed Dura Ace stuff from '04 - '06 except compact -- (i have that on one of my bikes and at one time would've killed for a compact crankset --- i switched to a 12-28 out back though and all was good)
The Fondriest name has adorned bike frames since 1993, the same year that company founder Maurizio Fondriest was riding a Colnago Carbitubo for the Lampre team. For the first few years the frames were made by artisan Italian manufacturers, Viner and Billato. The cycle company began to really take off properly when Fondriest retired in 1998 after a very successful pro-racing career that included wins on the Milan-San Remo as well as Fleche-Wallonne and Tirreno-Adriatico all in 1993. It’s fair to say then, that when it comes to all round cycling, the 1988 world champion knows his stuff.

maybe you could email Fondriest (or his staff) at their website and send 'em a pic and let them know you want more info -- paint reminds me of the Colnago paint jobs from that era (amazing i say things like "era" and "period correct" about bikes from the 90's now --- geez i feel old somedays )

Owen, you suck, because:
1. welded frame
2. Sora component
3. Tiagra component
4. New frame
5. Really trendy blue tires
Other than that, the bike looks great!

I've never had any problems with Sora components and the Tiagra cranks are nearly identical to Ultegra cranks from the same year, only a few grams in difference. I will get rid of the logos then it will look a little better than it really is.
I just ripped the old seat and seatpost off and replaced those with an aluminum seatpost and new saddle. Also contacted Fondriest, waiting for a reply.
