Gum, if only to validate my recent decision to change from black to gum on my Bilenky tandem hoods. They have honey leather tape on the bars (plural because there are two handlebars)

Gum would be nice, but looks a little much between saddle, tape, hoods with all of them not quite a perfect match for each other. Since the tape and seat match real closely, black hoods are an easy choice.

Black. The browns are too different. The redness of the tape is clashing with the more yellow of the gum.

Hmmm, I think in this case black. It all depends for me on how closely the browns match. I'd been thinking of a similar switch, so thanks for the visual example for me to keep in mind.

i had this dillemma with my trek 412, the saddle and wrap didn't match completely and i couldn't source hoods that fit my levers, went with black and im super happy

The funny thing is that while I want to be consistent and say handlebar when referring to only one, I'm sure if you look around the forum there are times when I refer to the bar on a single bike as handlebars.In this specific instance, as himespau mentioned I was talking about a handlebar in the plural so that's why I used handlebars.

I always try to keep in mind that with age and use, the colors may blend better, or might also do the opposite.
Also that this is only a photograph, digital no less. How it looks outside (assuming this is a rider) is more important.
I don't like the looks of big integrated levers of late (haven't been using them), so will have to take a pass on making the call here, but the black hoods definitely seem to reduce the oversized look of those levers.
