Chunky head badges

Some time around 1980 or so, a lot of bike manufacturers decided that the way to sell bikes was by replacing old-fashioned flat head badges with new ones that were designed to look like brightly painted ice cubes. This might have had something to do with the discovery of cubic zirconium, or it may have been related to the same phenomenon that brought us big hair and women's dresses with massive shoulder pads.
Anyway, here's the chunk-style badge on my Univega Viva Sport (crappy picture--the bike is set up on rollers in our extra bedroom, where I've been riding it all winter). I think that bike is a 1981, though I'm not sure of that. Who else went to that style of badge back in that era, and when? I know Motobecane did at one point, though my 1979 Super Mirage had the nice black-and-red enameled one.
They're horrible, but kind of fascinating, too--I'd like to look away, but I can't.

I'm looking forward to that clunky - but cool - Peugeot lion headbadge behind a half-inch of plexiglass
