Considering the Portacatena drilling it's older than 1978-79.. Do you know the BB threading and how about a pic of the seat cluster..

The top of the BB derailleur cable gudes also point to mid to late 70's.........but the brazed on top tube cable guides, double bottle bosses and FD mounting tab says 80's bike,.....unless they are later adds to the frame. I can see why this frame can confuse one when dating it....

Not correct. It would be no older than 1977. Portacatena was into'd at a show in 1977, first catalog appearance 1979. Seat cluster pic would be nice.

Better call NCIS and bring Abby into the case to run the frame's DNA...

The Cinelli IC cast BB shell is a SCM model (note the position of the socket tangs) and is said to have been introduced in about 1981, but I don't know where I read that (since the introduction date is not in the Cinelli Timeline). I know you can find this BB shell with both plain sanserif type (CINELLI S.C.) and then with the "new" flying C logo, so it was kept in the catalog for a number of years, even after the CCM (supposedly the replacement) was introduced.
Anyhow...all this BB shell speculation is the lead-in for me to say I'd pin it to the very latest '70s or early '80s, so '79 to '83.

I believe FD braze-ons were also an early 80s intro. Could be a custom build with options selected by customer.

It didn't take you sharp-eyed folks long to sniff it out. I's a Basso.
I picked this up as a project with a badly-stuck seatpost requiring a visit to a frame shop for removal by melting. Regrettably, I neglected to take any photos of the beaten and burned blue fade paint scheme and have searched for images of something similar in vain. It's nice and I think the 79-83 time frame is correct and the mixed signals on the braze ons which seem all of a piece probably make determining a model and year impossible.

Only if one accepts the argument that a part introduced at a show would have been immediately available to use on bikes the same year (I added a year because I figured there would have been a gap between when it was introduced and was widely available on bikes especially because it didn't show up in the Campy catalog for two years after it's first appearance; I certainly could be wrong about that) and yes, a part is only available after it is introduced; saying "older" was a mental typo..

oldskool, I have what I think fits that description. It's hanging out for the clear to dry to dry before it gets shipped back to me. It was a rescue project as well but two very respected frame builders have seen and worked on the frame and neither could say for certain from whence it came. The most interesting guess was someone building with nice parts and handy advice that was 'pre-Paterek'.
