Selle San Marco Rolls versus Regal?
I currently have a Rolls on my road bike, and I'm pretty happy with the way that it fits my rear. I am drawn by the look of the Regal, however. For those of you that are familiar with both, how would you say they compare as far as fit and feel go?

I prefer the fit of the Rolls over the Regal. From what I saw in the pro-peleton of the 80's it seemed evident that the Rolls was quite common.

Depends on your rear end. While a lot of people like the Rolls, it doesn't work at all for me.

never used a rolls, but i love the regal. used it on all my vintage builds.

I never had a san marcos rolls but according to many, it is one of the most comfortable saddles that have been made alongwith the turbomatic2

I did 30 miles with a regal on Saturday and my rear was hurting. I've done centuries with a rolls with no issues. The regal seems stiffer with less padding to me.

Ditto. I have a Regal and love it. I would buy more of them if they weren't so darned expensive. There are a number of Regal clones out there that some people have said good things about.

I prefer the Rolls. A few years I replaced a broken Rolls with a Regal, as the LBS did not have a Rolls. After a week I ordered a Rolls in the UK to replace the Regal.

Another Regal vote here. I put 50 miles on one yesterday with no issues. Then again, I've ridden a saddle with no cover at all, I don't care for soft saddles.

Had a regal for a while and really liked it but eventually swapped out for one of the Gyes swallow knock offs with the cut out. Nothing really wrong with the regal, just mine was pretty beat up and worn out and I wanted to try something new (with more or less the same measurements).

incazzare.
I had a regal. The shape was fine but it has a bit of a texture that prevented me from moving around on it. It was just too grippy to me.

I just noticed that I have SSM saddles on all of my bikes except one which is an old Brooks B72. I have a Rolls, Regal and Concor currently on my normally rode. Mind you I can't comment on the repro Rolls or a original Regal. I have an original Rolls Titanio on my Guerciotti and it's a lot more comfy then my repro Regal. I not sure if it's because it's still fairly new and not really broken in but I can only handle it for shorter rides but dang it...they looks so good. The Concor feels extremely comfy and quite cushy but find myself shifting around and still need to find that correct angle.

I had a Regal for a short while but got rid of it. I love the way they look, but it was one of the hardest saddles I've sat on -- virtually no padding. The rivets also hit my sit bones. Finally, the rails are very short, so it was hard adjusting it forward or back very much. However, if I was looking for a saddle to put on a "wall hanger," it would be a leading contender!

i used the regal clones and was very happy with them. cant really tell the difference other than the logo of the regal. i'm use to riding very minimal padded seats so that may be why i really like the regal.

First 40 miles, no noticable difference. 40+ mile rides, I prefer the Rolls by wide margin.

I have two Regals. One is a vintage Regal Forato (black perforated leather) and it's absolutely lovely. The other is a the new Regal (re-issue?) in white w/ copper rivets--it's a painful hatchet and is currently sitting in a box.
The two are shaped very similarly, but the vintage Forato seems to have a slightly less-drastic curve, resulting in a wider effective sit-bone area.

I'm a Rolls man - I have them on most of my bikes. I will keep using them as long as they last/are available.
I have done a few rides on a Regal. The Rolls has a somewhat rounder cross-section and a bit more padding than a Regal. (The amount of padding on the Rolls is still not a lot, and the padding is pretty dense). Which is "better"? That's up to your butt. I loves me my Rollses, bigbossman swears by Regals. We're both right.
