That's probably a quite expensive piece in his (already awesome) collection. Despite all that has been going on around LA, one would think this bike could make a buck or two on the bay. Even though the chainring shows a bit of wear. Has it been ridden since Oslo?
btw Inner chainring has never touched a chain it seems.

Nice bike - I've always loved the Motorola Merckxs, especially before they were badged as Calois. I still have my Motorola s/s jersey, too. Maybe someday I'll pick up a frame and put it together with more Campy 8-speed Ergo

Even so, it always seemed the pros got that kind of stuff earlier than the general public; heck, they were the ones thrashing it and providing a crude sort of "field testing", as it were.

I'm actually switching it over to DA 7400 STI sometime this year. I don't ride it much anyway, so the sacrifice of using Shimano is outweighed by the gain of having it "right". I was given a very cool Motorola jersey by a member here...Bluesdaddy. A VERY generous and thoughtful secret santa gift for which I am quite grateful.

I saw him race in Pittsburgh in the Thrift Drug Classic a couple of years. 93 must have been one of them. The first year he won and the 2nd he gave the race to a teammate who had pulled him to the end. It was very exciting stuff. I had my wife and 3 little sons with me.

He raced a crit here in Raleigh, NC in the late 80s? Loop / course was about 5 miles. After a few laps, when there was seperation, he was solo and racing himself basically. You could tell he was winning / going to win. He went by just so much faster than the others.

Check out the beefy chainstays. Designed for serious torque.

I agreed not to post pics on any forum, but if you dig around in my Flickr just a bit you might like to see one of Bobby Julich's Motorolas.
A Calois.
The owner has the whole shebang tucked away, but if I must say, it looks pretty spiffy with the HEDs.
