20" Wheel/Tire Size

Wasn't sure whether to ask here or over in the BMX forum. I just picked up a Schwinn Qualifier off eBay. It was supposed to be for a new kind of parking lot BMX street racing that never caught on. The wheels are 20",and the skinwall tires are shot,so I need to replace them. The tires have no markings other than 20x1.62". The rims are marked Femco 20x1.50. The inner tube is marked 20x1.75 (47-408) (I'm positive it's an 8 and not a 6) and the rim tape is marked 20x1.75 570x16. Is this a 406 wheel or some weird size? I tried measuring the diameter and comparing to my 406 folders, but the nutted axles mean I can't get a good measurement with a tape, although it seems to be the same size. When I tried mounting a modern 1.5" 406 tire;it went on really easy, and I was able to inflate it no prob, but I could not get the bead to properly seat after 3 tries. The rims are true,no damage. Checked Sheldon's site with no luck. Anybody familiar with these? Thanks in advance.

measure the rim yourself? rim OD is 422 on a 406 (bead seat diameter) rim. r = 1/2 D

It's a "standard" diameter 20" wheel with 406 BSD. The 20 x 1.62" tire size was a whackdoodle Schwinn experiment which never caught on. You can put anything from 20 x 1.50" to 20 x 2.125" tires on it.

Yeah, the tires are pretty weird. Labeled "keep inflated 35-40psi",which is not only really low,but pretty specific. I'm going to try some 2" Big Apples, maybe the 1.5's were just too narrow.
