Buying a 27 inch 1967 Robin Hood (Raleigh) for $50

I'm purchasing a 1967 Raleigh Robin Hood from someone in my neighborhood for $50. Seeing how I'm a bike noob, i just wanted people's opinion on it. I wanted to make sure I wasn't getting ripped off.

I don't know nuthing about these. But if that is a Brooks saddle, and it's in good shape, it's worth half of what he's asking. At least.
I say buy it. Where else you gonna get a bike for 50 bucks?

I'd buy it for 50....my wife would shoot me....That IS a Classic, and it appears to be in OK shape, will have to be gone through. Bearings, cables, chain, tires....a good clean and lube....and go from there. Welcome to the forum!

Kinda hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks to be in decent shape. I say go for it! Could be a good start to your new obsession. Also, what Rootboy said.

I like it esp. for $50. You can't really go wrong. Looks like a cottered crank which is a bit of a PITA but the bike seems in reasonable cosmetic shape given its age. I've seen a fair number of Robin Hood 3 speeds (even owned one in grade school) but never a 10 speed.

Any bike in good condition that fits you and rides well enough is worth $50 if you need wheels. As mentioned, a Brooks (or Wrights) saddle is usually worth that alone. It's a good quality entry level bike from the very beginning of the bike boom. It has 27" wheels but it's true size is closer to 21 or 22 inches. No rip off.

Looks like a pretty nice bike, and in very good condition. Let us all see some better pics once you acquire it.

I've had a 69 model since 1970. Basically a stretched Raleigh Sports frame. The Huret Allvit chainmoveroverers will do what you ask, but nothing more. The saddle is most likely a Wrights W3N, nothing to sneeze at. I'm still riding my Wrights. The crank is a Nervar 52-40 cottered job, it will last forever. Pedals are probably Lyotard.

The only area I would spent a bit more time checking out is the fork crown. Mine cracked sometime back in the late 80's and I replaced the fork with a much nicer Tange chrome job. Which is when I learned about Raleighs proprietary 26tpi threading, which this bike has.

If it were me, I would look the seller in the eye and tell him to " Shut up and take my money".

So I picked up the bike on Friday. Took it for a quick spin but I think it's a little small for me (I'm 6'1"). I'm thinking about raising the seat and getting new handle bars. I feel bad taking apart this bike if it really is all original parts like the seller claimed. Debating whether I should try and resell it or adjust it.

If anyone was curious, bikamper is right, the saddle is a wright w3n.

Sounds like you should have ridden it before buying it. That's way too small for anyone 6'+.

Clean it up and sell it for a profit. Use the proceeds to fund a bike that fits you.

IMHO, he could flip that for $150 with ease.. Or Ebay for $100 starter and with $50 shipping, and he might get a couple hundred..

I agree with everybody else, he can't go wrong for $50..
