Same here! I was surprised/disappointed it was shipped folded as I intended to frame it. I'll probably flatten it out and have it steamed and mounted to some foam core for hanging.

Anyone have a picture of this mysterious poster you can share here with the rest of us following?

I privately contacted him and offered to pay extra shopping to get a rolled poster. After I sent my address, he quit replying. Its not really much money fortunately, but a real bummer. I was really looking forward to hanging it in my shop.

Here's @Otto Rax and his litany of excuses from last October.
Stumbled across this thread and thought it was due a reply on a here.
I really can't blame any of you for feeling how you do. Again, I'm sorry. Some called it entitlement, some called it just plain lack of communication. I like to think it's just the latter, and if you knew me you'd probably agree. that is neither here nor there though.
Everyone seems to be caught up - thank you Robbie for handling the reposting of updates. I'll save the excuses, but it has certainly come together. I just got the 2nd proof copy back - wrong cover, wrong isbn, wrong paper, wrong page breaks, and wrong screening on the files. All the fault of the printer, but I met with a new, local printer on Monday and she assured me they could do it quicker and properly compared to the other.
I didn't realize so many of the contributors were BFers, otherwise I'd be more diligent with posting on here too. Real names (all I have on Kickstarter) don't align with everyone's aliases on here so I had no way of knowing. My C&V habit has taken a back seat in my current state-of-life, so I haven't frequented this board as much.
If you've moved, don't worry. I don't even have addresses, as Kickstarter has a procedure for getting those when the project is ready to ship. If you've contributed, you'll be getting an email very soon requesting your shipping info.
The update about shipping posters was a blanket update, so if you're reading this, got only a poster, and are itching for it immediately, please let me know and I'll be happy to ship yours out. PMs on here aren't the best, Kickstarter PMs aren't the best, nor is emailing through them. If you want to contact me, please use paxpaxpax [at] gmail [dot] com and I'll get this done. Of course, as I've stated earlier, if you'd simply like your money back, I can arrange that as well. It isn't in the spirit of this endeavour to be that unwilling, but everyone is different.
I think the nail was hit on the head when someone stated I had bitten off more than I could chew. I'd never published a book or set foot in a professional printshop before I embarked on this, and the project ballooned as I got more ambitious in an attempt to be comprehensive. I had only the best intentions of putting out a fantastic, very complete, book.
If you live local to Raleigh, NC - hit me up! I'm happy to get together, buy you a coffee, and hand over your poster. Heck, I'll even show you where the book stands (and I hope you'll be impressed).
Thanks again for everyone's patience in this matter. It has been a huge project that has netted me many lessons.

Amazing, but true...
I'm sorry Neil, not all of us work at MIT. Some of us are former bike mechanics with college degrees who have just been dealt a bum hand in life. I'm still paying off debts for medical bills in collections and a whole slew of other things that are truly out of my control, but demand my miserly earnings at present. I'm living with my parents for the first time in 12 years for goodness' sake. I think about this promise that I have yet to fulfill. I think about it everyday, and continue to grieve over my reputation in this community; now sullied over a series of unfortunate events that delayed shipping of posters. I'm working to get it his done, but please just email me directly with any issues or problems. Don't just blast me here, that's poor form and predatory.
i don't post here anymore because I can't afford the bike game any longer, not to be evasive.

Don't sweat it, we've all been over & under that Wheel in our time. Why don't you make the effort you've poured into this endeavor open content & share it with the public? I for one would be thrilled to see your illustrations.

I did email you back in the fall; no response. Really, the $20 I'm out doesn't bother me--it's the lack of contact. Do you not have contact info for everyone who contributed? Is there some reason why you stopped communicating?
And, fwiw, I don't work at MIT, and I'm a former bike mechanic with a college degree. I'm sorry you feel that you've "just been dealt a bum hand in life," but I'm having trouble seeing that as an excuse for what is surely within your control.

Holy gee-whillikers! I didn't pony-up any bread either, but I'm still hopeful that my Gitane's Huret Honeycomb dropouts got into the first edition. Having them published will be my 15 minutes of fame!
If it doesn't happen, then I'll just have to settle for 14 minutes, just like practically everyone else.
Oh well...
You know what? I can live with that.
So best of luck, @Otto Rax . I hope that the road ahead is smoother for you, and based on your responses, I am confident that you will make good on your commitments - even if it takes longer than expected.

Otto Rax, your pot shot at nlerner is despicable. You failed at this project because of your own inadequacies and insinuating nlerner is some privileged soul who didn't earn his station in life by his own perseverance and dedication to hard work is another blow to your own character, which you seem to hold in pretty high esteem.

That said, anyone who tries to start a business venture off BF for profit hasn't looked at the market correctly.

No one cares
Otto - not taking responsibility for your actions is pretty childish isn't it? There is no excuse regardless of your situation, bad luck or not. You took money for a product you did not deliver. That's called theft.
And your shot at the fact Nlerner has a job and your statement about your luck, well that just makes you look pathetic in addition to being a thief.
Make it right! Send cash or posters, those are your two options.

I didn't sell them anything, they helped me raise money for a project that isn't done yet. They will get what I'veromised them.
I never said he was lucky to have a job. I said I was remarkably unlucky, and so for what I have to do, it isn't done yet.
I'm making it right! I will send posters when they are ready, or people who choose not to wait and request a refund. That has been the standing offer for quite some time.
I never started this project, or shared it with this forum to make money. I thought it would be fun, and thought it would be fun for this community.
Nlerner, I never meant to insinuate anything or be rude. My post was an emotional gut reaction to a situation that I haven't finished yet. I never mean to imply you haven't worked hard to get to your station in life. I'm not entrepreneur, no is this trying to be a business. If it was a business, this would be even more of a failure than it has been.

If this is going to be such an issue, I can also just send you the poster that is available - lesser print quality, and slightly smaller dimensions - than the one I'm hoping reprint and send to everyone (resend to book backers). If this would suffice (at least for now), EMAIL mean and I'll slip it in the mail on Monday.

I have no dog in this hunt - but I will say I know otto and have bought several things from him over the last few years, and have chatted with him occasionally at different bike related settings. He has always been super fair to deal with (he lowered a sales price for a dura ace wheelset without me asking, etc.) and has generally come off to me as an all around stand up guy. So I would say have a little more patience, but I also know that is hard sometimes when dealing with unknowns, stretched out over a seemingly long time.

6 or 7 months of being pressed under a stack of books later, I decided to take my Dropouts poster to the frame guy 3 blocks away from my house. $28 to heat press out the wrinkles I couldn't and put the frame under glass with a simple, matte black wooden frame. Or I could go to Michael's and pay a faceless corporation for a sub-par frame that would likely work for at least a few years before it fell apart under the heat of the garage/shop.
I'm glad I went with my local guy for a number of reasons. Now, I'm having second thoughts on hanging it in the garage. It's too nice!

So what's the situation? Did he only send certain people their items and not others? Have all the books been sent already?
Ive tried searching for the book on amazon every now and then, and can never find it. I very nearly funded this 2 years ago, and im glad my judgement got the better of me.

I doubt it will ever be on Amazon, as it was a self-published book that lost the author a ton of money, as did the poster venture.
It was never about money for him, and I'd say he's lost around $2500 on the venture. He keeps that to himself, but I'll say it.
Shipping tubes cost more than the posters cost to print.
The saying "nothing ventured, nothing gained" is true, but more often than not, ventures don't pay out.
This one would have a very far way to even break even.
Suffice it to say Otto's venture started well, with talent, and then ran into human nature at every turn, from incompetent vendors to downright scammers.
All the while, he tried to work and pay his bills and deal with this bunch. I can think of better lessons I'd pay $2500 for, like tennis lessons from Sharipova or something.
He has had more than his share of bad luck, and I know it means little, in this context, to most of you, but for those of us that know him, a hit and run by a car, resulting in broken bones, and then a broken back, well, they add up, especially when you like cycling so much you decide to work in the industry at retail wages. My only hope is that someday, his bike shop will sell me stuff. More likely, my son will shoplift there, but it's a nice thought.
I didn't invest with any kind of expectations. I've participated in a few Kickstart projects, and the only ones that ever had any
response was the one by Otto and the one by iab. I feel glad that I could have partaken in either, and am better for the experience.
The others were just cups of coffee I'll never drink, so to speak.
I only wish that Otto had had the savvy and experience that iab has when he took on this project.
I think the project would have been better for him and everyone concerned. Huge difference in age and experience.
I've forgiven far lesser folks for far greater mistakes, with no effect whatsoever on their behavior afterwards.
I'm good with Otto, clean slate. There are more important issues in my life.

A reasonable synopsis, Mr. 'Tunes.
