What happens to all those bikes from the Tour every year?

Is there a cycling season? Are they rebuilt and reused? It looks like hundreds of top of the line racing bikes that would be available. .....

I'm sure some teams give their riders bikes at the end of the season. Others are reused the following season.

I know that when Toyota-United Pro Cycling shut down at the end of 2008 that they had a sale and sold all the bikes, jerseys, chachkis, etc on their website.

Since most of the riders and teams have several more races left in the season, I assume they used again. I do agree with Bill though some are likely given to the riders others used or sold. I would also imagine that in the case of a bike sponsor the bike company gets might them back.

Some of them are gifted to team champions and other members, some go back to bike maker R&D departments for analysis, Some might end up as training mules for the next season for lower ranked riders, Some might make it through a couple of seasons (in maybe smaller budget teams) of use if it turns out tobe really good, Some of them go on marketing tours for teams and bike comapnies, a few get stolen of backs of team vans, some end up in museum, some are passed down to up and coming talents the team might be interested in the future, some get ground down by entrepreneurs to make special pencil leads to sell to fans......and some can even end up as subject bikes in this forum......
So, as suggested, there's really no established way for teams to retire their race bikes.

They also show up on eBay all the time. As said above, most teams just sell off everything after the season is over. It makes a dent in what they spend the following year.

Shimano and Sram also want their parts back to analyze, at least the latest like Di2 (newest version) and Red.

Charity auctions, and teams sometimes liquidate the bikes through regular auction channels. I've also seen one example that passed down the used bikes (on the continental circuit) to teams in countries with emerging cycling cultures to help the local racers compete.

Is it this bike? Quote from Cav after losing a sprint 2nd day in a row:

“I don’t want to use this ****ing bike! What the **** is wrong with this bike!” he said, furious at seeing his chance of a second consecutive stage win pass him by.

Cavendish started the stage on a limited edition Specialized Venge outfitted with brand new SRAM HydroR hydraulic rim brakes and Zipp wheels.

I don't really care about the recent TdF bikes, but the years of steel + Ergo, those would ge me going.

I'd really like to have a Justin England item; he ran XC at ECU, a Pirate all the way.

They end up on Craigslist. I personally own three bicycles I got from a guy who vouches that they were ridden in the race. Even gave me a little certificate, with a gold seal and everything, says "Tuer da France" right on it. I'm guessing that must be the authentic French spelling, or something.

There are end of season auctions. I saw OPQS and a few others last year, the are mostly sold in Europe though.

Judging from his rant at the end of one of the stages, he probably doesn't want it.

Spoken like a true Brit I dare you to find one instance of him being a good sport/teammate this year. If you do I'll show you three or four instances of him being an ass.
