1974 Romic touring

I just picked up a vintage romic from an uncle. After a little investigating I found the serial number on the bottom. It reads 06a41674 and has a bunch of hand written numbers above it. I found a site stating they started in 74 and started at 01 does that mean this is the 6th?! How much do you think this would go for? Thank you guys!!

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.

This will be moved to the appraisal forum soon.

Without multiple detailed photos, the only estimate that we can give is vague at best. This is like asking "What's my Toyota worth," without giving details. You bike might only be worth $25, if rusted and dented, but it could be $800 or more if it is in great shape and has a good group.

Please post a drive-side photo and detailed photos to show the quality of the lugwork and components.

Whoa. Indeed that would be the 6th one, flamboyant blue, 23 1/2" frame. That would be the earliest known surviving Romic that I know of, mine is #24 . Value depends on condition. I'm anxious to see pictures!

It is early, but I don't think Romics have a huge market and are a smaller name; I saw very little interest in the one that I sold. As others have said, we'd need photos. One thing to understand is that when you get a value estimate, the estimate usually assumes good condition, on eBay, being sold by someone who is bike savvy, who has relevant eBay feedback. If your situation is less than the above, your estimate will likely be higher than a realistic selling price. If it has a high end component group, in good condition, maybe 500-600 max. Probably less. More as a part out. This is the kind of bike that is almost worth more as a part out since the brand doesn't generate a lot of interest in itself. In other words, much/most of the value will be the parts.

Being of Polish and Hungarian heritage I've always entertained the notion of buying a Romic or other eastern European bike. They are hard to find, especially here in SoCal. Pics are definitely in order. Drop me a line if you do decide to sell. PG.

I'm sure Ray was proud of his Polish ancestry, too, but he called his bicycles
"Quality American Bicycles" right on his business card,
not Eastern European.

I believe that is a SS number engraved on the frame. You should remove those pics asap and obliterate that number from the frame......

Bad news: It looks a lot like mine, which is a Model 25. It is near the bottom of the lineup. The value would be low, maybe $300ish.

Good news: It sounds like you got it for free and it is a decent riding bike. Enjoy it.

Without a name, it's just 9 numbers.

And scratching the numbers off the frame then makes it look stolen.

I think $300 is highly optimistic - I would have said $150.

So if it was YOUR SS# you wouldn't mind if a relative posted pics of it on the web? I think I'll pass on that.

In this day and age, I wouldn't be scratching my SSN onto a bicycle.

I'd find out if it was my uncle's SSN, if it wasn't I wouldn't care.

You might consider giving Joy @ Daniel Boone cycles in Houston Texas a call....she is collecting old bikes for a bike museum...and yours is a very early frame number....

1974 Romic Serial # 456D121174

Hello,
I was helping a person move and noticed his bicycle and it's a blue Romic. I'll post pictures later. Other than the bike completion date and production order, what else is known from the serial number?

Best,
BV
