Well, yeah, but it was a Greek ghetto after all.

I find as I grow older (52 yesterday) that I can't handle the ads and blather on most radio nowadays, so I have a bunch of classical stations on Pandora...(Italian content: lots of Italian composers) that blocks the noise and lets me concentrate. One day, this Voice came on...it was Callas singing Habanera from Carmen. Never thought I'd enjoy it but I have to admit I do.

Next thing you know I'll probably find myself riding a French bike...(never say never).

Sergio Leone: Can you say, "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly", or "Once Upon a Time in the West", or "Once Upon a Time in America".

Ennio Morricone: Provided most of the notable music for Leone's films.

For those who liked the good, the bad and the ugly, watch the other two films I mentioned, which were better IMHO.

Guess you never drove a Dino. Beautifully balanced car: small, with adequate power and wonderful manners.
I agree that it is not one of the most beautiful cars the Italians ever wrought. Those would be the 250 GTO and its descendant, the 275 GTB.

Don't even try to argue with that.

As for Bugatti, he was born in Italy but became a French citizen. When he opened his factory, Molsheim was a German city. It went back to France after WW1 and the cars that made his reputation were most definitely French. Beautiful? Oui! Italian? Mais non, M'sieu!

I think about Campy as the Ferrari of the bicycle world. I get spaghetti on my birthday because it's my favorite meal. Amarone?

If you want to have a good laugh, check this new ad that Fiat made for the US market launch of their newest car.

Mountaineering

So many great Italian mountaineers but at the head of the list is Reinhold Messner. He has summited all 14 of the worlds 8000 meter peaks without supplemental oxygen and sometimes solo.

And it was a strong Italian team that finally climbed K2 in 1954.

Interesting statement...IMO the Dino is one of the nicest things that came out of the Pininfarina / Ferrari relationship, particularly in the mid-engine category where I think it's the prettiest. At least they didn't put up a shot of an '80s era Testarossa...

I agree with your comments - I think the 250GTO and California Spyder are the top, with the 275 not far behind. I always felt the Dino was a special car - not at all a second-best.
