I'm slowly working my way down.
Vicenza is a wonderful city as well, off the beaten track. I visited it before I became to venerate it as the birthplace of all things holy, but still.
I've a strong feeling that I'll be spending a part of my gap year (commencing next month !) somewhere below the alps.

Taormina, Sicily, is one of the greatest destinations in Italy. It sits next to Mt. Etna and is directly above the Straits of Messina.

Many Italians like the gelato in Sicily, which, like the cannoli in Sicily, is superb.
Most visiters to Italy stay in the northern and central Italy and never consider the south. However, southern Italy and Sicily were developed by the Ancient Greeks and their 2500 year old temples and amphitheatre are often intact and can be seen without the crush of tourists. The Amalfi coast is spectacular, if crowded in the summer.

We have visited my wife's family in various regions of Italy and we have no clear favorite destinations in the country.
Every place offers something special, but I must say I thoroughly enjoy the Dolomites.
A short stay in Bolzano seems to give us so many options!
I feel very comfortable in this mountainous region and we take full advantage of the outdoor opportunities.

Some of the Italians also enjoy their gelato on the Dalmation coast judging by their license plates last week in Split.

Our niece in Bayern is looking for a honeymoon spot.
This may be a likely option.
Soooo beautiful.

Lol, I hope you don't mean shell building. At my club, they reserved the Filippi's for the lightweight guys. They look great and they don't weigh a lot, but apparently they're very flexy. Not that I noticed, off course, as the totally powerless 62 kg compensation guy at the bow, but the big guys in the heavyweight crews all preferred Empachers

Taste in music is a very personal thing and is not a concern that I would lose sleep any over.

Filippi and Empacher is like comparing Ferrari and Porsche. Can't go wrong with either if you want to go fast.
Maybe the boat is damaged? Possibly, it is an "Italia" model (single skin carbon, heavy) not the "Italia S" (Carbon Nomex honeycomb -very light and stiff)?
5 time Olympian, multiple Olympic medalist (2 bronze, 1 silver, 1 gold) and good buddy of mine Rosanno Galtarossa of Italy thinks they are too stiff. He is a very VERY powerful man.
Rossi, also has good taste in bikes
Personally, I always preferred Filippis to Empachers for no other reason than I don't like yellow boats. Also, as this thread seems to attest, the Italians are very good at making fast things (bikes, cars, motorcycles, boats...).
While I was on the National Team (1993-1998), we used Empachers at the World Championships and the Olympics because that is what our coaches wanted and because Empacher had a better lease deal. For domestic racing and training we all had our own boats. While I was rowing, there were more Filippis than Empachers among the training center athletes (personal choice and the US$ vs IT₤ was quite a bit more favorable than the US$ vs German DM (pre-Euro)). There were also quite a few Van Dusens and Hudsons.

Wow. That is the first time in 25+ years I have ever heard someone describe Filippis as flexy??? I will respectfully say that your heavyweights are out of their mind. Among Elite (National Team + Olympian) rowers, Filippis are considered among the best made, stiffest, and fastest boats available. At least the equivalent to Empacher. Even the Dutch guys I coached for the U23 Worlds thought the same.
