Ha! Yes, 26". Actually not that long, I had that post in the bin, it fit, so on it went. The cockpit was cramped and that post has been replaced.

That looks like a great ride, I'd like to check that out. I am in Highland Park. I ride the tow path all of the time. What is the BTCNJ? Iv'e got a spare pair of Paul cantis, I need the hangers & those braces. I'll order them next week & find out if the bolts are included.I'll get some better pics soon.

The Paul stabilizers work fine, look great, with the best possible boy's name prominently engraved as a bonus! They require new/different canti mounting bolts, which I think, but am not positive, are included with the stabilizers. Either way, just make sure you get the mounting bolts.

Shot those on the Piermont>Nyack rail trail. It runs parallel to the river, up on the hill, maybe 5mi. Ends in Nyack, you can cut through Nyack down to the river, ride River Rd to Nyack State Park, then pick up a couple of connected trails up to Haverstraw, another 5mi or so. Pretty much the only unpaved public trails of moderate distance I know of within a reasonable cycling distance of NE Bergen County, I get about 20mi of round-trip trail on a 40mi round-trip ride. The Nyack Park trail runs right along the river's edge, which is nice. Then it climbs to the longer trail to Haverstraw, which is fairly hilly/challenging for fat old me. Here's the Kelly down by the river's edge:

Aren't you down in Highland Park? I rode the canal trail to Princeton often when at Rutgers, was just there a coupla weeks back on a BTCNJ ride.

BG- could you tell us where you sourced the short fenders on the celeste bike? I know they are not very functional but I remember them from BID and like the look....

A TdF is not a CX bike, but I did ride it through the 2013 Worlds course.

This is steel, but it isn't vintage. Commemorative frame made by Raleigh for the 2013 single speed cross worlds in Philly - hence the Ben Franklin image. I use this for commuting and as a pit bike.

That's really cool. But interesting that it has vertical dropouts and a RD hanger. Does it have an eccentric BB?

That's a saxy bike. Any idea how those Jitensha bars compare to the VO Postino bars? They look similar.

Romperr, the Jitensha and Postino bars have a very similar shape. The biggest difference is that the Jitensha have a 26.0 clamp diameter vs 25.4 for the VO bar and the Jitensha weighs less. Hope this helps.

I dig it. That's a mighty big single ring to push on a cross course.

Yes, it was essentially a production steel frame, just painted up nice. You install a PF30 eccentric BB, with a 24mm axle there is plenty of room to rotate it. I keep a rear derailleur and bar-end shifter handy for when I want to do a gravel ride and need some climbing gears. So it is either a 1x1 or 1x11.

45t. To be clear, there was no one on the course at the time and I stalled out and fell over more than once.

This is probably my purest purpose-built CX frameset, as opposed to a CX/Gravel/RoughStuff melange. It's a Serotta Custom CX frame, built by Greg Fuquay in 1990 as his personal CX race bike. The serial number is Greg's initials and the build date, and two of the canti bosses have an "F" cut into them. Greg was a Brit expat who built for Serotta in the early '90s, and is now, I think, a helicopter mechanic working for the USAF. He built under his own name for a bit, not sure if that was before or after Serotta.

CX-specific features are having no bottle cage mounts, no cables/casing/doo-dads inside the triangle, no fender/rack mounts, no heavy tubing for carrying stuff. A child of the '90s, tire clearance isn't gravel-generous - 35mm smooth-tread tires are tight at the chainstays. Front canti bosses are too narrow for modern canti-/v-brakes. I don't have any issues with the cable routing or lack of fender/rack mounts, but I do like to carry water when I ride and can't bring myself to use clamp-mount cages, so I went with a retro-ish bar-mount cage position, but had to use a modern-ish to keep the bottle from jumping out on the rough stuff.

It's mostly a relatively modern build. Just recently converted it to a mostly-SRAM 1x10 40x11-36t drivetrain, thought it'd be fun to single-ring it in the front. Definitely makes for easier shifting on the trail, and it looks a lot cleaner. I lose some high gear, but wouldn't generally be furiously pedaling this bike downhill at 30mph+; the 40x36t low isn't too far off from the previous 34x32. Disclaimer: I got SRAMbassador bro-deal pricing on some of the SRAM stuff.

I've posted this bike before in the "Retro roadies w/STI" thread, but hadn't seen this cross bike thread. Fits better here, so here she stays.
