thanks for the encouragement. I can just sign up for some of the races right? I'm going to be back on the east coast for most of September, so I imagine i'd be missing several races.

I'm debating using my Centurion for a CX race. I'm still trying to get better on it.
I've been challenged to attempt the Gran Prix of Gloucester.
I bought some Kenda KrossCyclo tires for it. I have a Retroshift CX1 that I need to put on as soon as my 105 shifters come in.
I imagine I'll hurt myself quite badly

Nice bikes in here some of the bikes i had seen already so i'll submit my crosser.
I probably won't race this but bought this aluminium Alan CX Guerciotti from a guy from Amsterdam that used to be a pretty good racer in the eighties.

It has this flattened top tube feature which should allow for a little bit easier carrying during races and it feels pretty light for a Classic CX.

Fillet brazed Steelman cross, I use it for mixed terrain rides. A little too big for racing, but very comfortable for long rides. I have ridden it on a Fleche for 24 hours.

Nice. Does look comfortable. I sized up for my Rawland, which sees mixed terrain but mostly roads and is the closest to a touring bike that I have/need.

I typically ride 54cm TT. The Rawland has an ETT of 56cm and a long headtube. For my cross bike, I sized down to a 52cm TT. We'll see how that goes!

Whats the deal with the shiftmate on a Shimano/Shimano system? 9 speed shifters over 8 speed cassette?

Just a couple more and then I'll restrain myself. The Fisher is an MTB, but I just dig the paint job.

Very nice Guerciotti, Steffen. I've had the same, but somewhat taller and in red with white panels. Nice light bike. Pity I let it go.

I like the aggressive fit setup of these (RFC's) bikes.

The Fisher looks to be based on a properly-large frameset for better handling as a road bike.
(Cool color scheme as well).

How wide are those bars?
Does that long stem play nice with road bars and out-of-the-saddle climbing?
I see that you've got the reach to the hoods shortened up, which seems to makes sense.
No reason that a mtb frame can't go fast, right?

That's not a shiftmate, just a pulley similar to Avid Rollamajig. Makes for a cleaner derailleur cable run, less likely to catch a branch.

That's so cool.

I've only ridden a Steelman road bike, but I had a great time with it.

Yours looks perilously close to my size.

Ok first off Kool Bike! Second, noob question here, how do you get two sets of brake levers to work on one set of brakes? Or are only the small brake levers in the middle attached to the brakes?

The levers on the tops are "inline" levers, so they are on the same "line" as the outer drop bar levers.

How does that work exactly? Obviously they must tie in together at some point correct?

It's one cable, like normal. The regular lever pulls the cable and the inline lever "pushes" on the housing, so both can actuate the brake.

The inline levers spread the housing, thus actuate the brakes. Nice design.

They are Paul cross levers, as described here:

Genius. Do they actually provide strong braking power?

They feel at least as strong as the STI levers. The big advantage for me is to be able to sit back and keep the weight off the front wheel in loose descents.

Here is a picture from last weekend. I have another mixed terrain ride this Saturday. I will try to get some good pictures after I wash it.

It's the most fun you can have on a bike. I am hooked, looking for mixed terrain every time I get a chance. I am also lucky to live close to Marin headlands and Mt Tamalpais where mountain biking was invented. Here are more pictures from last weekend:
