Brakes for late '80s Raleigh

I have a late 80s or early 90s steel framed Raleigh mountain bike ("Rocky") that I want to revive, including replacing the old Dia-Compe cantilever brakes that are in pretty poor shape. However, looking at the brake bosses, I see that the 3 little holes for the brake spring are placed toward the OUTSIDE of the fork, not the inside as all other bikes I have seen.

Some searching and a post in Mechanics on BF hasn't been very encouraging but I thought someone here might have an idea. What are my options for a modern brake for this bike? I'd prefer a V-Brake, but a or cantilever is fine too.
