Imperial

Hi,
Just saved from the dump a nice Imperial woman frame 10 speeds. I never hear of that frame. The "Made-in" decals is half peel. We only read Made in *something-something"ire. And the "ire" it's the end of the country name Made in Angletaire? It would be "fabriquer en Angletaire" Simplex deraillers
super hood brake lever
GB Stem
GB 77 Brakes
L.a.B dropbars with flower engrave on the middle part of the handlebar.
Quick-release aluminium hub. Didn't check the hub maker.
Cotter pin crank.

I didn't look at the freewheel
There a serial number under the BB.

The paint on the frame is goergeous and nice little detail. nice chrome on the fork and stays and cable guide for the rear derailleur. Do any of you have any info on Imperial bike. Can'T sleep at night because of the "made in ****ire"

You sure that's alower case "I" on that scrped decal?? Only thing I can think of is "Made in Ireland"...
Some very nice details on the bike. Definitely worth building back up.
I'd start with replacing the plastic Simplex RD with an all metal one.

I'm posting this question in the Imperial thread because it's related to that bike.

I worked a little on that bike last bike. I descided to make a single speed out of it. When I check to remove the freewheel I realise it's an old TDC freewheel with a weird 3 notches. and needs a tool similar to this. i can buy it online I don't mind have tools that are use once every blue moon.

But Before doing anything do TDC freewheel have "standard" thread? It's threadedx on a sunshine hub.

The threads are most likely standard "english" threading, but think about your options.
A nice alloy wheelset will cost you less than you think, so before you start buying tools for the old stuff, consider that. Good wheels will do more for your ride than any other upgrade.

+1. If that frame is only half as nice as the pictures suggest, I would certainly consider something with aluminium rims.

Yes. Standard English thread. The remover tool is unique, though. Perhaps a LBS or co-op near you has one?

I purchased these exact wheels from J&B through my bike mechanic for my 1983 Trek 500. I am very happy with them and they look great. Well worth the money.

What exactly are these original wheels, that are so heinous that no one will consider keeping them?
