Those are interesting, Chombi. Looks like it was drilled, then the counter sinking, then the arms were heavily buffed, rounding over the edges of the holes. Then the whole shebang anodized, or painted, black. Almost looks like spray paint. Pretty well done. But I'd prefer the heavier version, sans holes.

Guy needs a harsh dose of reality and some cheaper components to practice on.

Still learning
Maybe the seller is visually impaired? A drill sargent in the Nazi forces?
Looking at Nazi stuff all day can make one dillusional.

Absolutely horrible! The seller should have his head examined for extra holes or drill to relieve too much stress.

I guess I could understand why the seller would be so defensive. He is selling the crank to make some money after all...and the sense for aesthetics is at best subjective for most people around us.....
But the quip about "old men" with wall bikes not needing to bother looking at his auction was uncalled for.....
If only he'll realize that most drillium is owned, used and collected by people who can remember them from the 70's and early 80's

I loved the "LOTS OF LOVE PUT INTO THE DRILLING." as well. He must be blind or missing most of his fingers (from working with tools no less lol)...

"noone has ever won a Tour De France using their eyes..."
so true and so insightful (no pun): all the winners thus far have done it with eyes tightly shut...especially that guy Noone, an unsung hero.
drilling cranks while blindfolded is almost as good.

when it hits top speed the wind blowing thru those holes plays a pan-pipe "Ride of the Valkyries"...scares the competition to death!
Same as those Campy cranks...evil,yes, but genius!

I....I am speechless. What thoughtless massacre of such beautiful components, and I am not 100% sure what I am looking at (rarity wise that is).
Man, it's like the guys who would bolt 12 different gauges to their cars and claim it aided in horsepower when all it did was ruin a dash.

........it has an air of hipster irony that I find appealing. That and the question answer:
It reminds me a lot of the kid who came into the coop with a fork bent like this:
and who was deeply wounded when I would not help him rethread it. It looked fine to him.
....................and FAST !
the drilling is done for function and weight reduction. if drilling is slightly off a rider would never be able to feel it.
you ride a bike with your legs, not your eyes. noone has ever won a Tour De France using their eyes.
this is not for old men trying to create a museum type bike that they always wanted. this is for a person to need to reduce weight and to be FAST!

A puppy was killed for each hole drilled.
Good lord is that gnarly! I love his answer claiming that this is for speed and weight reduction. I'm sure you'll go very quickly after this snaps on your first climb.

The thing that saddens me the most is the fact that someone actually is actively bidding on it.

I can only conclude that the person is either eight years old, or a troll of the highest order.

I hope no one rides that crankset. The person drilling had no concept of structural integrity. Someone could get seriously hurt.

Edit: I was on my mobile when I first posted. I went back through his auctions, and his SS cufftitles are just about as poorly made as his drillium. As a side note, I can say with 99 44/100% certainty that he's not a traditional WWII reenactor, which makes me feel slightly better now. I live in the same neck of the woods, and ethnic Asians reenacting as Germans are uncommon enough that I would have noticed him.
