T-Mar's 10,000th post
As of this writing, T-Mar's 10,000th post is imminent (currently at 9,999). His contributions to this community have been immense. But it is not simply the quantity of his post, but rather the quality that sets him apart. His comments are measured and thoughtful, and, more often than not, backed up by what must be a massive reference library of vintage cycling catalogs, periodicals, manuals, etc.
Perhaps I am mistaken, but it seems from some comments I have read that he intends to step away from this forum after his 10,000th post. I certainly hope that is not the case. We will all be poorer without him. But, if that is the sad case, he has already contributed more to our shared knowledge than anyone I can imagine and his legacy will be preserved in his vast archive of informative posts.
I hope this thread does not preempt any comments T-Mar had planned. He may be too humble to draw attention to his own milestone. Thus, I would simply like to take this opportunity to thank T-Mar for the incredible knowledge and wisdom he has shared over the years. I personally have benefited from the Nishiki database thread while restoring my '74 Nishiki, and have picked up countless tips, technical data, and other information too numerous to list. THANKS! If you have a T-Mar story, or would like to share a way in which he has helped with some technical inquiry, or simply want to express your gratitude, let's hear it.

Does this mean that he'll post his phone number with his 10,000th post so we can call him directly?

I have used the information in T-Mar's serial number database threads numerous times to help ID a bike. The depth and shear amount of information he has freely given on this forum is outstanding. I do hope that he continues to contribute here for a long time.

Death fork? Naaaah!!
T-Mar has not only contributed his extensive (can I say encyclopedic) knowledge, memory, and database; he helped me obtain an item that was unobtainum here but still available up North.
His opting out would be a great loss to the community.

No one cares
even at 10 posts t-mar probably provided more usefulness than everyone else here.

^Just found the answer:
(I see this quote was actually a reply to my own query to T-Mar back in April asking when he would write the great history of the bicycle industry. I guess I've just been living in denial since then.)

This reminds me of a different forum where one of the main guys just up and disappeared solely to watch everyone talk about where he was, and wonder if he was ok, and how the place wasn't the same without him, blah blah blah. It was all a move to stroke his ego.
Now I'm not saying t-mar is doing that, he doesn't seem like that type at all, but he better have something huge planned that takes a hell of a lot time or this leaving at 10years/10,000 posts thing is just plain weird.

Problem with that is, once ol' T-Mar has weighed in, the thread has managed to gain some value. He just can't help it :/

I just want to make sure I get a signed copy of his book. His post are very matter of fact and straight to the point. I am coming up on 10 years on this forums too, but I know when T-mar joined he was a fountain of knowledge and I was a knowledge seeking newb. I have learned a lot from his contributions and his composure. I think that sometimes we all have habits we would rather not. Or we spend time doing things that take away from other things we would like to value more. Sometimes telling yourself that you will do something at a certain time far off in the future you will actually convince yourself that you will do it... this could be his own way of psyching himself up to get of the forum and put his knowledge down on paper for all to benefit from. Or maybe he is going to build a website of vintage bike information... in any case... T-mar if you are off, then all the best to you... I always assumed you were back east somewhere and if ever there is an opportunity to meet you I would gladly take it.

+1 to all the above...there's still material to be gathered, T-Mar! The Motobecane Serial # project is barely started!
