suggestions for a 52/42/30 tasteful classic crankset

I'm building a Bob Jackson World Tour as a Rando/Light Touring bike I'd like a 52/42/30 chainring setup but can't seem to find a crankset that is suitable. Suggestions? Am I limited to vintage stuff or is someone out there making a modern "road triple" that looks classy and is square taper?

Thanks!

I don't know where jonwvara is with this project, but if he has the inner rings available it would be suitable I think.

The chain rings you want may be a bit of a problem but there are a number of classy square taper cranksets out there. Sugino triples are readily available. Velo Orange has different cranksets; so does IRD. Personally I'd get one of the Suginos since I think 110/74 bcd is the way to go.

I have a Stronglight triple and matching bottom bracket that I just pulled off of an early eighties Peugeot Vagabond. It, and the frame set, with head set, bottom bracket and canti brakes are available. If anyone wants to pursure the frame, let me know and I will list it in the proper forum. The frame is 53cm (c-c)...

I've been eyeing a Sugino XD600 but I'd have to spend some money to switch out the chain rings. 52t 110BCD rings aren't cheap and are not readily available unfortunately. Why do you like 110/74?

110/74 rings are widely available and I like the chain ring combos a lot. If you're running 9, 10, or 11 on the back (this is a modern build right?), then you'll have a heck of a good high gear (a 48 or a 46 running on an 11) and a good low (24 up front running on whatever you like on the rear). My rando/light touring build as a 46-36-24 triple and an 11-25 on the rear.

Wiggles_dad, Probably not what you're interested in, just two that I like. The first is a 5403 square taper crankset and the second is a 6503 V1 Octalink.

Actually, these are along the lines of what I am looking for. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes this is a modern build with classic esthetics of course. I was planning on going 12-27 (9-speed) and 52/42/30 up front. I never even considered going smaller in the rear.... just what I'm used to I guess. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ha. Even if you think they are ugly, still better than modern "spaceship" cranks IMO.

Rivbikes sell them for triple the price!

This is a triplized Campy. Elliot Bay Cycles will drill out a standard crank.

This is a 52-41-28 crank.

Jon has a triplizer for the Stronglight 93 with 42t middle, but is going to be producing both a 37t ring and a triplizer version!

Lots of shimano racing triples had this configuration too, There were a lot of sugino 110 bcd doubles with 52/40 which could be swapped onto a triple for something like 52/40/28, which would be close, of course it will take some patience to make it work cheep. I will finish this by saying that I can offer you a sugino AT with 52/40/28 rings in 175mm.

Here's one of the classiest looking cranksets from France....and it's a triple!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Stro...item1c36e869dc
Only thing is, the pedal hole threading is French. Finding a good French threaded pedal is not impossible though....or you can always re-thread the cranks to 9/16".....

I just picked up a NIB Shimano 105 FC-1057 52/42/32 triple crankset for $68.00 with shipping included. Now if it vintage you are looking for, Stronglight 99s are always on Ebay. The chainrings tend to be pricey.
