Or your concept of fair pricing is off. If I wanted a Merckx for as long as you've been posting about it, I'd have one. I'm all for being patient, but Merckx are easy to find and it wouldn't take me long to find one priced fairly. The patience comes in that I want things under priced, not fairly priced, and I can afford to be patient because there's no one particular bike I want.

I've overpaid for bikes that I really wanted - it's a hobby, not a business. I think I overpaid a bit on one of my Cinellis, but I wanted it. Don't regret it at all - it's a super fun bike to ride.

OK, I'll be honest. I have...7 Merckx bikes.
They're all wonderful and they all fit me (and they're all too big for you, Broid). But I'm also very willing to buy the right model/size frame and then have it repainted in whatever scheme I want. Not everybody thinks the same way about a respray as I do, but there you have it. I get what I want in the size and color I want, with the components I want ( I have an embarassing richness of groupsets) and the bike is perfect and gorgeous.
You might want to consider this, especially if your intention is to buy and ride/keep instead of sell.

I've willingly over paid for stuff myself, just not bikes. We overpaid for our current house by a lot, and we knew we were doing it at the time. Smart? Of course not. Do we regret it? Not in the least, and would do it again. And overpaying for a house is more than bicycle money, no doubt.
We all have our wants, and paying extra to get exactly what you want can in fact be "a good deal".

rccardr: You're a swine. No one (Except me) should have 7 Merckx bikes. (Especially not in my size) I am no longer your friend.
gomango: I am currently riding a C'Dale Supersix Evo size 54.
I am not sure how much flexibility I have in sizing considering the difference in geometry between what I currently ride and what I am looking for. Started a WTB thread in C&V Sales...
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...TB-Eddy-Merckx
I am being a bit picky.
rccardr: Now that I have forgiven you I have thought about building one up from the frame. I can find frames all day long, a complete bike just the way I want and size I want has been a bear. I have three on my radar right now, one on Ebay and two from a private seller. But the search goes on.

That bike is local to me, if I didn't already have 2 merckx I would of checked it out in person. Not sure if he would come down in price though.
Both of mine would fit Broid's needs I think but I'm holding!
'89 7-11 w/ mostly dura ace, and an '85 professional w/ super record

That frame is a really, really nice riding frame. The Chorus group is a fine group, not top shelf. I think that machine would go for about 800 on ebay. Craigslist is not the nicest place to see bicycles or motorcycles that appeal to a small market.
I ride a 57 Merckx, if you see one in good shape for a nice price let me know. Last month a Team GAN Merckx with full Record-C went for less than 900 dollars.

Really nice. Nice use of Dura Ace on the 7-11 and excellent super record on the professional.
Really nice. Both those machines are really well done.

The 85 Pro is right up my alley...
I've been using Ebay as well as AdHuntr to search CL nationwide. Plus just Google "Eddy Merckx bike for sale" and I come up with some alternative stuff. So far the nicest offerings have come from private seller on this Forum.
