Bent fork thread

I don't think a thread exists for bent fork cases.

I'll start:

I crashed and went over my handlebars at the end of April. Here is a picture of three forks for comparison. The top two are straight. The bottom one was on the bike

Or maybe rear-ended a car, then got rear-ended by another one.

I can't believe that's an actual ad, and that it actually says
Have a pretty sweet Schwinn Traveler road bike for sale.

I don't think there's any way the advertisement's description and the pictures go together. Also, it looks to be the 25" size.

Deformed forks from crashes or overloading are one thing, slight bends can drive ya nuts!

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5330/9...01f0f2b1_z.jpg

There was about 3 degrees of twisting bend in what appeared to be a straight fork. The previous owner remedied the repair by filing a bit of drop-out to align the wheel...arrghhhhhh! An hour or so on a frame table and it's close to being perfect...to be perfect, new fork ends, chrome and paint :(

One of mine, unfortunately:

Damaged in my Household Goods shipment from the UK, January 1996. Bike was mint and fully-pantographed; a real head-turner. Now it's a prime candidate for a shop stool.

Moving sucks, it's always so hard on the stuff you're moving :(

Hmmmm... I'm picturing a big fat guy hitting something, the rear of the bike comes up, then smashed back to the ground while he's still seated...

That has to be one ill-handling bike!

^ Is that supposed to flex and absorb road shock? And why that stump at the right side? Dynamo mount?

ofgit 08-10-14 04:41 PM

Beauty, eh?

eschlwc 08-10-14 05:16 PM

this is a '76 krystal professional i bough for $60.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7377/...129f6537_b.jpg

the two guys that sold it to me were laughing as i walked away with it. i think they thought they 'pulled a fast one.'

i had just bought a g.jubilé frame that needed almost everything. the krystal had:

- takagi crankset
- high flange suzue hubset
- sr stem
- suntour cyclone derailleurs and cable guides
- suntour barcons
- sr rando bars

who's laughin' now, b1t¢Π€s!

That's the idea. :) It's a springfork bike made by the "Anker-Werke" in Germany called "Anker Sichelrad". The one shown above was built in 1937.

The purpose of the stump on the right side of the fork is indeed to Mount a Dynamo, which given the shape of the fork otherwise would be impossible.

@DanielWilde, very cool Anker Sichelrad. Thanks for sharing! :thumb:

Is that a light mount boss on the top head tube lug?

No, that's a screw mounted to a clamp wrapped around the steerer tube. By tightening the screw the front fork can be fixed in position. Not much use to it, but was common on most german pre-war bikes.

Thanks, always nice to see something new.

Wow. Glad you recovered ok. That bend is impressive. Must have been quite an impact. Was the bike toast?

Also I dont know if you care but theres a lot of personal info in that second photo, dob, address, name and patient id. Might want to blur it and repost up to you though.

1987 08-13-14 11:01 AM

@SJX426 ouch, hope you are ok now.

After seeing all these bent forks I came to think about a Swedish design classic.
