Campy 6 speed rear derailleur barrel adjuster
I snapped my barrel adjuster in half today. Unfortunately, it was on my 1984 Pinarello six speed. I did not realize how small of a diameter those adjusters are. I'm thinking they are the 4mm dia and I can only find larger diameters for later modeled derailleurs. Do any of you know of a source for these. I went to several bike shops and just got stares and "sorry you will never find it" looks. One guy recommended a machinest which seems kind of extreme. Thanks for any advice.

Which model of derailer is it? Can't be NR or SR. I might have a pranged derailer with a suitable replacement.
I'm nearly certain the threading is 5mm, but the later 80's were some of Campag's dark, experimental years.

Thanks for the responses. I am posting two pictures that might help. I'm not sure of the model of the derailleur but it is the one that has the barrel adjuster going in at an angle and if you saw it for the first time you might think someone had misaligned it. Also, I used my new yard sale item and found that it is indeed 4mm in diameter. If either of you have one to sell I would be grateful.

What model rear derailleur are you talking about? I can't think of anything that Campy ever called a 6-speed derailleur. The traditional friction shifting stuff did not include or need barrel adjusters. And I don't think Campy ever made a 6-speed indexing system.
Is there anything printed on your derailleur?
a picture would help.

Ok, that is a first-generation Chorus. I've used them in friction mode on 6 and 7 speed setups. I can take a look at mine and see if it really needs a barrel adjuster.

I have a similar campy deraileur with the same problem. I had to find another barrel adjuster & retap it.
Find the bike shop with a quirky owner, every community has one. Usually a one man operation with of bikes & parts everywhere. They always seem to have that "odd part" in a box somewhere.

That is one cool dial caliper, made in Orinda and I bet it's quite old. I like the zeroing mechanism.
Old Simplex shifters usually had 4mm barrell adjusters you might find on a broken pair, but the barrel on those is tiny.
I agree the derailer could also be tapped for a common 5mm adjuster.
