What do you guys use for bar end plugs?

Those Cateye plugs are available in chrome/silver. May suit the OP's need (though they may suffer the same fate as the ones the OP pictured).
Otherwise, metal? Nitto ones Catnap posted are amazing, but I've never seen 'em for sale (maybe just not looking right).
There are numerous other metal options out there from what I've seen, but I use 1) whatever comes with the tape, 2) Velox plugs as pictured in other posts here, 3) Cateye plugs as pictured by thinktubes, 4) plastic wine corks, cut to fit bars (colors vary depending on what you drink/find).

On my classic vintage bikes with period builds, I use Velox rubber plugs. On other bikes I use bar-end shifters. On my Jeunet with porteur bars I use wine bottle corks.
Compass Bicycles just started selling Grand Bois metal bar-end plugs (probably made by Nitto): https://www.compasscycle.com/handlebars_plugs.html. They're nice because they don't have a logo like the Nitto-branded ones.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. I just put on some Cinelli black cork (with some tiny specks of various colors) bar tape today, & the included black plastic Cinelli plugs. In my limited experience, you just need to get enough tape inside the bar end, for the cap to press against to tighten right. But I'm still very new to wrapping bars, so I might be cussing at them, in time.

I've been using the plastic plugs that comes with Cinelli cork far tapes, but got a pair of Berthoud leather plugs (for free from the Canadian seller, because of shipping delays of my Berthoud saddle I ordered from them) for my Carbone last year that's on the bike now to match the Berthoud Galibier saddle on it.
But I guess I'll be using these the next time I change the tapes on some of my C&V bikes.... The Line Seeker would be the first one...
Pulled these out of the bottom a clearance sale bin (in the great tradition of cheapskate C&V LBS shoppers) at "Napa River Velo" bike shop about three weeks ago while on a wine tasting tour up there. Just still a bit dusty, but all complete and in good/unsued condition.
Offered just 3 bucks for the whole lot of the 8 pairs of NOS Velox plugs and the store manager accepted! Score!

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Velox are my favourites, Cat Eye plugs are also great, and if they are metal expansion plugs it is even better.

Barcons, some weird old fashioned black ones similar to the Velox, cheap plastic plugs (Silver/Black/White), possibly schwinn original mirror metal plugs, and just got a set of cork/bamboo plugs I want to try out and will be installing possibly today.

How exactly does a company that's made bar end plugs for the past 50 years or so NOT know what size washer will fit into a handlebar?

I got some anodized blue alloy locking bar plugs from Soma for my '87 Fuji. They look good, and they stay put.

I have a bunch of Hunt-Wilde tape and plugs I'll be selling off in the near future (bought a bunch to get the "correct" color). If you want something atypical and I have a color that matches, they might be an option.

For the earlier bikes, I primarily use Velox. However for one bike they're too big after I wrapped the bar with a thicker cork tape. Was thinking of just shaving the Velox plugs down but instead just jammed some corks. I realize this is the C&V forum but I sort of like the look of those new china made ally domed / bullet shaped ends.
