Top's dump guy comes through again!

I've been on vacation this week, which means I've been working three times as hard as I would be if I were going to work. While leaving the dump this afternoon after bring my FOURTH load of broken concrete slabs Marcel, the dump attendant, flags me down and says a nice bike came in, he can't pronounce the name, but he stashed it behind the crusher for me:

Very, very nice! I'm always blown away by the bikes folks find at the dump. And my size too.

I've never been to our dump but judging by the price people ask for used crap around here, I don't think people even throw out their holey underwear. You can buy those on kijiji.

Can I have that front rack? Nice score, congrats, but I'd look it over good, before jumping on it. It's probably fine, but it just seems wise to make extra sure, in this situation.

I don't think I'm going to part it out.

Veteran enough not to keep a bike too small for me. If I can't interest my daughter I'll see if I can source the proper SR rando bars and a pair of Dia-Compe levers and find it a loving home.

If you are disappointed with the pickings at your local dump, go to the dump at the most affluent town near you. Wealthy people throw out valuable stuff.

Must have vegan PhD's manning the dumps in the Pacific NW? Every dump operator I've met usually is a Bud, Pabst, Genessee, or Narragansett kinda guy, especially the AFSCME operating engineers driving the Catepillars.

I wish. She already has a nice frame set up much like that, but she rides it only indoors. Anyway that one looks too big.

I am going to resist the temptation. It's hard, you know. And I don't even have an connections to New Jersey.

This is the truth, and the bike shops in upscale towns throw out some very nice bits when the shop gets busy during the warmer months.

I recently pulled a pair of perfectly functioning 11-speed Record Ergolovers from a shop's dumpster, very low mileage and only one medium rash on the right lever, with no cracking to the lever or body.
Some fine sandpaper, a bit of clear nail polish and a pair of hoods to replace the ones they cut off(!) and these will be just about as good as a new $400 pair.

Maybe not. Miyata measured seat tubes C-T, and this is much closer to a 48 than a 52.

Great score, and great save. A 1000 does not deserve an ending like that! All the best in bringing it back to life! I tried going to my dump site once, but they don't allow people in there to pick, suppossedly for security reasons! That really annoys me! :-)

I love this site because when I start feeling good about myself I can come here to put things in perspective. ; )

Don't part it out! It's going to clean up real nice. I'd ditch the bars and brake levers. Either get some randonneur drops or north roads and dia-compe levers. And when you replace all the cables, get gray. Lube everything and pack all bearings of course. All my opinion, we all have them I heard.

Nice score!!
