Bianchi Axis - Road Bike or CycloCross

I wonder if anyone can help me.

I have a Bianchi Axis Road bike (at least that is what I believe).

In doing my research all I come across is Cyclo Cross frames that look exactly like mine including name..

I bought it off a friend whose Dad use to race with it.

It has everything road wise but why can't I find any information on an Axis Road Bike?

Anyone have information they can share?

I don't communicate with the guy I got it from to get more info.

I thought it was a 1989 model.

Any help would be appreciated,

Manny

Your Bianchi Axis is considered a Cyclo Cross bicycle, it has cantilever brakes, Bar Con shifters and a triple crank set up. I have one that the paint is trashed so bad I just stripped it for parts to use on another Bianchi frame I have..

yours is deffinetly a cyclocross bike. BTW Solavei FTW, I did that for awhile, but got little interest as there is coverage, but no local phone numbers available, where I live. Probably the only legit MLM setup I've seen.

Yep, a cyclocross bike, but fun to ride anywhere with a quick wheel swap.

I had an overbuilt off road wheelset, then a lighter wheelset with proper tires for road use.

That's what I did with mine.

Now that's a sweet looking Axis Gomango.

Was the Axis built with a decent tube set, would it be worth my while to prep my Axis for paint. My Axis is way to small for me, but I have everything I need to do a proper prep job for someone if they wanted to have it painted if I got rid of it as a frame set.

Glenn

Pics of it when I got it, it was originally purple, talk about fade.

Thank you for clearing that up for me!!!

I've been wanting to get a new road bike and also a cyclocross since I want to use it year round even in snow and rain.

I've also been considering selling it to get a new road bike but torn between actually giving it up. I get lots of comments on it from bike shops and people who are familiar with it.

If I had the budget right now I would just turn it into a cyclocross (I guess I just need wheels or tires) and buy a new road bike. It has Mavic 105 wheels on it and it's in great shape.

Indecisive for sure overall.

I definitely want a lighter road bike and a cyclocross but budget is not there yet for either.

Decisions! Decisions!

Do I sell it for a new road bike? Do I hold onto it as it will be more valuable in another decade or two?

If I could make an even trade for a good road bike I would consider it.

Well...either way I'm happy with it right now.

Thanks again for clearing this up for me!

This forum rocks!!!

I also have a 1989 Axis. Perhaps an early pioneer to cyclocross, these earlier models are quite heavy bikes compared with current cyclocross setups. Mine is around 28lbs and that's running it completely stock with skinny road tires. The 1989 model even has that interesting eyelet on the DT for a stock carry strap!

My Axis is setup is a great daily commuter and I would not hesitate to tour on it. But too heavy for Cyclocross. I like the Suntour barcons and the Accushift 7-speed (but thinking of a newer canti system for the Diacomps).
