Can someone please shed some light on Campangnolo Strada cranks and brakes I have? From what I can deciefer at the bottom of this all to familiar webpage https://www.velo-retro.com/tline.html these cranks are of a 70's vintage. Am I correct? It states:

"Starting in 1973 the crank arms have a code consisting of a diamond (1970's), circle (1980's), square (late Super Record), with a number in the center denoting the last digit of the year of manufacture (with the exception of the square:11=1985, 22=1986, 33=1987)."

Brakes? I have no idea where to begin looking to find information on them. They look identical to


The bike is pretty clearly a mid eighties model (Bertoni) with a sprinkling of Shimano 600 and some sort of Campy components. I am trying to figure out just what model/year "Campy" is on here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cranks are 1974 Nuovo Record. Can't see the markings on the brakes well enough to tell. Interested in selling that crankset?

Looks like Super Record to me (at least the chainrings do)
The brakes look like nuovo record to me (but Icould be wrong here).

cranks are '74 NR.
big chainring looks like super record, and small one, maybe sugino?
brakes look like super record. Looks like you've got some nasty pads there tho.
I think NR had "patent" marking instead of brev., but I could be wrong.

Front derailler you have there is 600 ultegra, from early 90's.

Brake calipers are Record from between about '78-'82. The difference between the Nouvo/Super would have been in the levers (Super had the holes), and the pad holders (chromed steel on Nuovo & aluminum alloy on Super). Calipers were the same for each type. Starting in '83 I think, the caliper profile changed, and Campagnolo was stamped in script instead of block lettering.

Well, it looks like someone built this up from a frame or has made extensive changes. The cranks and brakes (and by the looks of it, the hubs too) pre-date the Matrix frame. The derailleurs could be original, but would have to be very early samples of the 6400 series. The stems from this period are usually engraved or stencilled with Bertoni.

I imagine a lot of people are cringing over the combination of vintage Campagnolo and indexed Shimano, but it combines the best of both worlds. A very nice bicycle. Personally, I like the spartan looks and even the colour!

Well first, thanks to everyone who responded! Very interesting to find out this Bertoni has 1974 Campy cranks on a 1988'ish rig. The brakes have the aluminum alloy holders so I assume from the information you guys have given me that the brakes are Super Record while the cranks appear to be 1974 Nuovo Record. From looking at Campy Cranks on EbAy the only difference I can decearn between Super and Nuovo is the inner chainrings are different.

I finished tearing down the bike today and refurbishing everything. Everything is new including cables/housings, chain, saddle, bar wrap, tires and even tubes and the bike is going up on the auction block here shortly (awaiting new brake hoods) and the smart thing to do is to remove the cranks and brakes, sell them seperately, and replace them with like S' Ultegra/600 so that they bike has a balanced component list. But from what I have gathered the Campy cranks need to be on a Italian BB as the Shimano cranks will bottom out as the tapers are different. So will I need a Shimano style BB to swap over to Ultegra on this bike? Can I bolt on Shimano cranks to the (likely) Italian BB already on the bike?
