This one is still very much a work in progress. I came out to Georgia to help take care of an elderly relative, and I still haven't had a chance to get back to California to get my stuff (including my bikes). After about a month of zero riding, the lack of endorphins were starting to do a serious number on my sanity. I was able to scoop up this 1991 Paramount PDG on Craigslist for the grand sum of nothing. A couple had bought it for their teenaged son, who never ended up using it. It's bigger than I like, but for the price...
This is the picture I took immediately after bringing this little stray home:
The aero bars had to go. It had a nice Ultegra/Mavic Open Pro wheelset, and an Ultegra 6500 rear derailleur, with the rest being stock. Obviously 7 speed downtube shifters don't play well with a 9 speed drivetrain, and friction shifting via downtube shifters on a 9 speed system on north Georgia hills proved to be a bit much. I'm running on a shoestring budget at the time being, and have no parts bin out here to scavenge from. I was able to get lucky with some brifters from a local contact, replaced the cassette and chainrings, threw on some SPD pedals, and replaced the derailleurs with an XTR M-952 rear and a Dura Ace 7700 front I found on eBay. Works much better, and I'm not vomiting up my spleen on these hills. That's always a plus.
I have a prettier crankset, and saddles that aren't complete ass hatchets back home. It has yet to achieve it's final form, but it's now getting to the point where it's getting the job done.

Nice to Have a Huge Network of Friends
I sold a pristine Neon Orchid, but too small, 1986 53cm Paramount of similar vintage exactly a year ago and have been looking for a reasonably priced 58cm. The pictured below Palm Beach area 50th anniversary Paramount was listed in "Are You Looking for One of These?" by @Robofunc. Thanks so much.
I am 1200 miles away, but it will be in my Michigan basement shortly. I don't do social media, but have friends and family all over the USA. This morning my friend, who just moved to FL about 3 weeks ago came through and acquired the bike on my behalf. She is a craigslist virgin and this was her first transaction. Ironically, she was all nervous about it, given the scams out there and carrying a large wad of cash, but all anxiety was relieved when we found out the original owner/seller was a local LEO.
I am 1200 miles away, but it will be in my Michigan basement shortly. I don't do social media, but have friends and family all over the USA. This morning my friend, who just moved to FL about 3 weeks ago came through and acquired the bike on my behalf. She is a craigslist virgin and this was her first transaction. Ironically, she was all nervous about it, given the scams out there and carrying a large wad of cash, but all anxiety was relieved when we found out the original owner/seller was a local LEO.

My '84 Waterford Paramount touring, bought new. Phil hubs and BB, Stronglight 99 and basic Japanese stuff. Does not get used as much as it should. I spent too many years driving as a rep and am only now getting back into riding.

Regarding the serial number, I'll check the details but recall it's on the BB. I'm not a Schwinn or Paramount geek so am not familiar with the formats. Give me some details and I'll verify which it is. Thanks for your interest in the frame. I need to ride it more and will try to do so. I've only seen one decal like mine in person, on a frame belonging to a guy named Davis who worked at East Coasters in Blacksburg VA.

That's interesting about the frame being a stock touring frameset. It is the first touring model I've seen with these decals. It's also the first white one. Primarily I've only seen black (mine), blue, and gray. Those have all been road frames and metallic.
The Chicago serial number scheme carried over to the first Waterford models. It was on the left dropout and began with a letter for the month. The next two numbers were the year of production. The final numbers were the frame number for that month. Thus E8337 was May 1983, the 37th frameset.
At some point they moved this to the bottom of the BB shell as seen in this January '85 model which has the newer decals but the old serial number system.
Sometime later in '85 they moved to the new self describing serial numbers which included size information.
BTW, here is my '83 as it currently sits with its new tubular wheelset. Got to run. More later.

IIRC, sometime in the Fall of 1984 the switch to the new decal style occurred. I've yet to nail down the time when the serial number moved from the dropout to the BB. You'd think with at least 78 frames made in a month more of these would still be around. We can only wonder.

A blue with white accent Paramount is so droll worthy!
I have since picked up a set of road shoes and reinstalled the original Shimano/Look road pedals. The seat/seat post are not original as well as the cassette which is a 12/28 HG but the rest of the bike seems to be original. The 12/28 helps out a bit with these tired old legs.

I can attest that it is a beauty. The paint is in significantly better shape then my '83. It's also cool that it has a real headbadge instead of the decal I have on my headtube. I like the Brooks Cambium in that color. Very classy!

I didn't realize you were this tall. One of these days when I visit my niece and nephew in Chattanooga, I need to come up to Knoxville and we can go for a ride. I need to see this beauty in person.

If you get to where you would like to touch up the paint, Harley Pacific Blue Pearl works great. I wanted to do a little touch up on mine and I struck me that my '07 Electra Glide was almost the identical color. Got out the bottle of touch up and sure enough it was almost a perfect match.

As far as inserting an image, click on the thumbnail twice and it will open in a seperate page. Right click on it and a menu opens and on option should be "Copy image location." Select this option. In the message box type "[ IMG ] (without the spaces) [ /IMG ]" and paste the location inbetween.

My original 1960 Paramount P12 (Chrome-plated with original red painted head tube)
Here's a photo of my 1960 chrome-plated Paramount P12 with scarce original red painted head tube. In great original condition, however the Brooks Competition saddle top was dried out thus had to be replaced. NOS saddle top was purchased from Tony Colegrave in the UK.

Here's a photo of my 1960 chrome-plated Paramount P12 with scarce original red painted head tube. In great original condition, however the Brooks Competition saddle top was dried out thus had to be replaced. NOS saddle top was purchased from Tony Colegrave in the UK.

Dave at my LBS took these great pictures of Miriam, my beloved 1970 P13-9, and they look really good so here they are. I ride her whenever I can. I am too proud of her to NOT show her off at every opportunity.
