issue with upgrading centurion ironman to campy 10 speed, need help

thought i would start a new thread for this as i know lots of you have updated old frames to sti or ergo. My frame came back today from the shop and i installed the bb cups, crankset, front derailleur and rear derailleur, downtube cable stops. Of course i removed the old cables and housings, thats where the problem came. The rear shift housing has a step down ferrule on the chainstay side, campy cables came without a step down, in fact they came with a special ferrule that has a thin plastic guide for the cable. Im not sure where to go from here? try and source a new step down ferrule locally? use the old housing that already has the stepdown ferrule on(is this even possible with campy cable)? use the campy ferrule sitting over the housing even though it doesnt fit inside?

Think this is the only thing i will be stuck on, as long as i can figure this out i want to have this done tomorrow. I would pm robbietunes but last time i tried it said he couldnt receive pms. any and all help is greatly appreciated. pics coming as soon as they upload to my photobucket.

Jose

Im trying to remember what I did with mine, but what I think I did was do the derailleur side of the housing first, then mimic the bend. I used a dremel to cutoff the housing, and used the tip of my soldering iron (cold) while the teflon was still hot to open up the slightly melted teflon and just ran the clean cut piece into the chainstay fitting.

It was very snug in there, and I see it as no different than the older frames that had cable guides not big enough for ferrules. You could even cut it carefully so some teflon sticks through.

Your LBS should have some step down ferrules. If not, PM me and I'll mail you a few.

Take your time and order up the proper step down ferrule. If you try to cram the plastic one in there it will be similar to having stretchy cables and will not be consistent.

Alternately, you can re-use the old cable, but you might be going from white to black based on the pics. It will be difficult to pull an old ferrule off and get it on the new cable, but if anything the campy gear cable would be smaller, so getting it off would be the difficult part.

If you want it done quick, don't worry about it and order up the proper ferrule and ride it in the meantime. Just don't put the crimp piece on the cable.
