A race for your life; which bike do you choose?

A the title suggests in a theoretical vintage road race for your life, which bike to you pull from your current stable? Let's keep it to downtube, stem or bar end shifters only.

Here is mine, a Paletti Lightning. Although it wouldn't matter what I rode, I'm sure I'd still get smoked by you guys...

I'd use my Palo Alto. With these thick tires I'd be confident taking off-road shortcuts...

Saaay

This wouldn't be some ill disguised excuse for you guys to show off your pretty bikes would it ? They might shoot you just to lift this one off of you and take it home with them.

I've only got one bike up and running right now and that's my '86 Trek 500.
It's comfortable for the long haul if I can get away. I'd show a picture but jeez this is a hard act to follow.

In a race for my life, I am fastest on this:

"Fast" is, of course, entirely relative. I'm sure I'd be smoked by the majority of others, not to mention the fact that I'm not able to carry any survival stuff without bike luggage. Still, I guess there'd be a quick, pretty bike lying on the ground next to my corpse.

Just borderline vintage, but probably my quickest bike is my '87 Team Comp Cannondale. A really stiff rear triangle allows tremendous power transfer.

I'd have to choose my 85 Trek. Light, smooth, fast.

Are you referring to the display stand? A local bike shop had several of those made some years ago. When she closed the shop, I bought a couple from her.

My burley tandem with my wife stoking and the kids in the trailer. So we could all escape from the zombies.

How far? How many days or weeks or months will this race for life go on? Will I be trying to outrun zombies or vampires?

Probably this one because it is fast, is comfortable for the long haul, and has tires which are less likely to need patching while the zombies are coming:

None of the bikes I would really pick have DT or barcons. It depends on the race scenario terrain I think - will a flat get me killed? Is there gravel? Are we talking zombies?

The Picchio is a wonderful riding bike and was my first impulse, but all things considered - the 68' SC is quick and nimble, but also has clearance for wider tires. It's stiffer than most frames of its vintage as well...

Aaron - If we're talking Zombies, we really don't need a very fast bike. Almost any bike will do.

Granted, I'm not a zombie movie expert...but I thought some were portrayed as spry and relentless. I meant if zombies are involved, I need reliable; I'd pick wide 26 inch tires.

Now if we're hunting zombies, I'll call dibs on this baby.

or this practical choice with a well tuned chainsaw.

I don't have to be fast, just faster than the slowest couple of guys. I'd grab a water bottle on my way out and whichever bike had enough air in the tires. Probably the Colnago. Hope I grabbed the right shoes for the Look pedals. Uh-oh, can't get off and run in Look cleats. Bad move.

Nice Pinarello, by the way.

Can't believe I am down to one bicycle with dt's, but I'd have to air up the EVOs on the Zullo.

Hope I remember how to shift these things.

As I recall, a classic zombie doesn't eat people. They just kind of do nothing except what they are told. Vampires on the hand are a different problem. What they show on TV would be sort of half zombie and half vampire. I can't decide whether they are zombires or just vampies, but I'm inclined to think vampies.
