Upcharge?

So I bid on some hubs and noticed the $24 shipping charge from Maine...then noticed this:

Frame and Wheel Product Analysis and Service

Frame and Wheel includes a product analysis and service (PAAS) charge in the shipping cost. The PAAS charge is what the buyer pays Frame and Wheel for making the effort to obtain the item, clean the item, make sure it works properly, make repairs if needed, take many good pictures of it, describe it accurately and thoroughly, provide an opinion about it, purchase custom made boxes (if the item is a high value wheel set or frame set), pack it carefully, ship it within one day of the auction closing, offer 14 days return policy and respond to emails quickly. Frame and Wheel believes that buyers should pay for better than average descriptions, faster than average shipping and professional service.

wow...

not sure is memory serves correctly, but isn't that a violation of ebay policies somehow?

Thats just normal stuff you do before putting stuff on Ebay. Thats what people pay you for, I take it Ebay wont be putting up with that kind of BS for long.

Genius. With some clever wording they get people to pay them for doing what every other seller has to do too. Paying them to list an item. Amazing.

Thank goodness. I was about to ask if you withdraw it. I wonder if that is against some ebay policy?

Very deceptive. They're putting cost that should be in the item into the shipping. If they need to get a bare minimum for the item, they should just start the bidding near that price.

Probably not as there is a specific place for "handling charge" when creating a listing.

Where's the "washing of hands to not transfer fingerprints to value-added product" charge?
Or the "Sufficient digit pressure to input research data via keyboard surcharge" ?
Or the "Usage of recyclable Green materials for packaging fee"?
LOL!

Nope, he's just hoping you don't notice it until after you win the auction.

Good thing you decided to PAAS. Their acronym almost makes it seem legitimate.

That I think is the answer. In general, people are not checking the detail often enough.

Thank God they aren't charging for sprinkling with Holy water. Now that would be just plain wrong.

He should offer a BS discount though.

Does it matter?

Final cost is final cost no matter how you slice it.

Well, each package has to pass through NH on the way to the rest of the country. I have to get my cut as well.

It sure does....because I pulled my bid. At the end of the day X is X but I'm not going to support a seller who plays games.

When I was selling stuff on eBay I would list an honest shipping estimate and if it was over what I quoted I ate the difference. Higher dollar items would have the option of a Buy It Now price that included free shipping and if the item was bid beyond a certain amount I would also ship free.

Those numbers are the additional charges for each item? No wonder you pulled your bids. That's just plain wrong.

Seems like they're tooting their own horn and charging you for the privilege of hearing it.

So basically a "charge" to do what I've always done in order to determine that a part is worthy of positive feedback. This guy is simply a scammer hidden behind fees, like any bank, cable company, or whatever. The good news is that you don't need this clown like you might a bank or cable company.

Except he clearly listed his fees and even gave an explanation.

It is obvious many who have posted here do these services for free. Many sellers on ebay don't do any of the services offered. As lostarchitect pointed out, it would have been more "acceptable" to put those fees into a minimum bid. But bottom line this guy or gal was completely transparent. Bottom line is bottom line. I don't see any game at all.

A buyer could give a low rating in the feedback thing relating to "reasonable cost of shipping". Otherwise, the seller is being fairly honest about it. It's a crappy way to do things, but they're not hiding it, much.
