Best tool for the job? Everest freewheel

I have a Campy rear wheel with an Everest Star Professional freewheel, 13-18t. My 2-prong SunTour tool doesn't fit and I figure this would be a good excuse to acquire another freewheel tool.

A post on The Headbadge site notes that the typical alternative (Dura Ace TL-FW10) is also not viable, and their recommended tool (Bicycle Research CT-1) appears to be unobtainium.

Anyone know where a CT-1 can be had, or if there is another option?

If I can find something for less than $25 I'd like to acquire it. I'm in no rush (before spring) and I'll head to the LBS if no options present themselves.

Has anybody ever tried a large one of these as a freewheel remover, and do they even make them in a size both large enough yet able to enter the "hole"?

I think I just came up with something to manufacture

^Interesting idea....

If the Suntour doesn't fit, I'm pretty sure what you need is the older 2-prong Regina FW tool. Look for one with the ring around the edge which helps keep the notches in place.

This one is just outside of your budget: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Bicycle-...item485b514ac0

Yes, Regina used to use the same dimensions. Found in the Campagnolo tool kit too.

I'd spring for the Bicycle Research, otherwise your going to mess it up.

That's my concern with the 13t Everest (as per the Headbadge post). [strike]If someone knows that the Regina works in this application I should be able to track one of those down.[/strike]

I can troll eBay for the next few months for the BR tool, since it doesn't appear to be available elsewhere.

Edited to add: Actually, that eBay linked tool is the CR-1. Thanks!

I think the Bicycle Research tool will not work with the small cog in place on this freewheel.

Headbadge says that the CT-1 will work, but the DuraAce will not with the small cog. Could I just spin off the small cog with a pair of chain whips?

How about the Bicycle Research CT-600? Price is nice (link), and it's listed as compatible with Regina. No idea about Everest, though.

The retaining ring on the Bicycle Research tool is removable, and once removed it should fit even the 13T cog freewheel.

Thank you. That sounds like the one to get.

I have no idea about the diameters involved, but could the Suntour tangs be ground to work?

Yes, but doe to the thickness of the freewheel notches and their height in relation to the body its nothing but trouble.

Suntour notches are recessed, the Everest notches are raised.
