New "stray" and advice on painting.....

Could not help myself as I have another one and they are great riding bikes! This one was floating around on CL here in SD for a while and I got is cheap! It's a mid-80's Celo Europa (Colnago-lite) Colnago BB shell and Columbus drop-outs. Chrome is clean, neat parts but ugly paint. Rides sweet! Anyway thinking as a keeper:

A) New powder coat red!

b) I paint it! Get it stripped and then prime it and do a two color fade with automative paint?

I used to paint my old schwinn stingrays back in the early 70's with the Schwinn-approved paint
I hate to part it out sell her off in pieces and need a winter project....Opinions please

I like the "b" alternative save the two color fade. As this is your first paint job in a while... I would go more conservative, reference what the bike most likely looked like when in production. Also see if you can locate some Celo Europa graphics. Marcel was selling stuff off on ebay which indicates to me that he kept much of his inventory. My guess would be he has some transfers, he was selling off Masi sheets a while back, but you would most likely have to document you have one to him.

Nah that bike has to be wet paint... or maybe electrostatic paint if you can find somebody able to make it.

The Celo Europa store is in Laguna Hills, just up the freeway from SD. He is chocked floor to ceiling with vintage stuff.

Wow, nice bike. If you can take it to a shop that paints bikes, you can pick the color you want, it'll look great after.

I haven't painted a bike since I was 16, it was a Bottechia Special, and it was a lot of work. I have to take everything off the frame, take the time to paint it well, then put everything back on. It looked great but it wasn't a pro job, that's for sure. If I had to paint a bike now, I would let a shop do it. For what it's worth, get it done right.

I do some paint jobs for myself and yes is hard to paint a bike, that's why paint jobs are expensive .

+99. Don't paint it. The finish appears fine. Do a careful touch up and wax, then ride it.
